“Baby Daddy” Season 5 Episode 12 Recap: Ben-Semination

This week’s episode of “Baby Daddy” did not comfort Danny and Riley shippers like I hoped it would.

BABY DADDY - Freeform's "Baby Daddy" stars Jean-Luc Bilodeau as Ben, Chelsea Kane as Riley and Derek Theler as Danny. (Freeform/Craig Sjodin)

The episode started off with Riley redecorating her apartment to get her mind off of Danny (as any normal girl would). Things take a turn for the worst when Riley’s mom shows up to help get her through her breakup. This is the exact opposite of what Riley wants. She’d prefer to just not think about it at all. Poor Riley. Just across the hall, Danny is attempting to get his mind off of Riley by excessively working out. The timing could not be worse for Danny and Riley because they promised to plan an engagement party for Riley’s friends. Bonnie and Mrs. Perrin hate seeing their kids like this so they decide to interfere. Both the moms hate each other so this won’t be easy. Riley and Danny meet up with the moms to finish planning the party. They just can’t seem to get along but they plan to pretend they are still happily together for the party’s sake. The moms decide to work together and be a team in order to help Danny and Riley forget why they hate each other. While trying to save their son and daughter’s relationship, they just can’t help but argue.

Meanwhile at the bar, Ben attempts to hit on a girl but finds out that tucker already has “dibbs” on her. Tucker met her at the sperm bank where she works. He started going there and “making deposits” to earn a little extra money. Apparently the only reason he hasn’t gotten a date with the nurse yet is because they only let you make deposits once a week. Tucker has a brilliant idea to accompany Ben there so he can have another opportunity to ask the nurse out. Ben agrees to help his friend out and make a little money in the process. Tucker’s plan works and he scores a date with the nurse. Ben is a little weary after making his donation and fears that a couple that just walked into the clinic will choose him to be their donor. The couple does end up choosing Ben and Tucker finds out on his date with the nurse. Tucker immediately tells Ben and Ben freaks out.

Ben decides to go back to the clinic and ask for his sample back but the nurse explains that when he signed the contract he relinquished all rights to his donation. The couple that chose Ben happens to be at the clinic the same day to have their procedure done. Ben dresses like a doctor and sneaks in to take back his sample. Tucker sees the sample with the nurse so he snatches it and runs out. Ben gets caught and feels guilty for interfering with the couple that just wants a baby. They threaten to call the police and Ben runs out.

At the engagement party, Ben and Riley painfully act as though they are still a couple. Bonnie and Mrs. Perrin decide to give a speech which doesn’t go well (shocker). Riley and Ben lock the moms in the pantry to prevent them from being even more embarrassing.  During a speech by the newly engaged couple, Riley asks the sound crew to turn on the sound system and things go horribly wrong. Apparently the mic was still attached to Bonnie which means everyone at the party can now hear the conversation between the two moms. Now everyone at the party knows that Danny and Riley broke up. If that wasn’t bad enough, Bonnie also says that everyone thinks the bride-to-be is a lesbian. Riley and Danny rush to turn the mic off and they trip and knock down a table. The groom storms out in disbelief and just like that the party is ruined. As Riley and Danny lay on the floor defeated, they both agree that they are tired of fighting. Riley suggests that they need to find a way to make this work. There is a glimmer of hope in Danny’s eyes as he thinks she means making it work as a couple. Then Riley says they need to make it work as friends and not a couple. I can’t believe this show broke my heart two episodes in a row.
