Dancing with the Stars: Cirque du Soleil Theme Night

Flips, tricks, dancing, oh my! Monday’s Dancing With The Stars Cirque du Soleil night was full of entertaining routines. Each dancing duo came to compete tonight, but as always, we had our favorites.

Heather and Maddison’s Favorite Pick

Laurie Hernandez and Val Chmerkovskiy

Can you say PERFECT 10!! It’s no doubt our first favorite goes to the most entertaining number of the night, Laurie Hernandez and Val Chmerkovskiy with their jazz routine to Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel.” Okay, so we may be a bit biased because this is one of our favorite MJ songs of all time, but regardless it was still amazing. The energy was explosive, the technique was on point, and Laurie’s facials were something completely reminiscent of the legend himself.

We weren’t the the only ones who felt this way. The judges were impressed themselves! Bruno says she is a version of Janet Jackson, Debbie Allen and Paula Abdul all rolled into one. While Julianne Hough summed up the performance perfectly when she said, “Michael Jackson might be the king of pop, but you are the queen of the ballroom.”

Maddison’s Picks

James Hinchcliffe and Sharna Burgess

My next favorite goes to a couple who I’ve loved since day one, Sharna Burgess and James Hinchcliffe with their quick step to a song from Paramour, the first broadway Cirque du Soleil show. This number had everything a good broadway show has. It had creativity, energy, passion, entertainment value, the list goes on and on. The whole number looked like a complete show in itself. Carrie Ann Inaba said the dance was, “An incredible way to end the most magical show of the season.” Although Carrie Ann and Julianne took off a point for a small misstep, Bruno awarded James with a 10, giving him a 29 out of 30 and the second highest score of the night.

Marilou Henner and Derek Hough

My honorable mention goes to a newcomer on my list, Marilou Henner and Derek Hough. Normally, these two don’t tend to impress me, but Marilou came out with a new intensity that I just loved.

Heather’s Picks

Calvin Johnson Jr. and Lindsay Arnold

These two are sitting at the top of the leader board having a lot on the line going into tonight. I loved the incorporation of the Cirque de Soleil Kurios’ late 19-century steampunk vibe. The choreography was perfection and I love the biker hanging from the ceiling! I honestly believe this was their best performance so far!

Julianne says they have twinkle toes and impressed with Calvin’s ability to toss Lindsey around like it’s nothing. As soon as I saw the lift I was instantly impressed, yet thinking what is Carrie Ann going to say?! Well she loved it so much she turned her head to it and didn’t knock them down! It was a risk that well paid off!

Amber Rose and Maks Chmerkovskiy

Well if that didn’t make Julianna blush this week, I don’t know what will! WOZA that was HOT!! Get it Amber! She is my honorable mention this week. Each week Amber is showing consistent growth and I think she is heading in the right direction.

Amber and Julianne were able to talk through the miscommunication of last week. Amber was very brave to speak her mind. Julianna said, dance is a great place to express yourself and she is a huge supporter of that. Carrie Ann even mentioning she blew her away with this routine tonight!
