What You Missed at the D23 Expo

To all my fellow Disney lovers out there, this weekend was OUR weekend. And if you have no idea what I’m talking about, I’m referring to Disney’s D23 Expo of course!

Now if you don’t know what the D23 Expo is, it’s Disney’s biggest expo. It started in March 2009 and has happened every other year at the Anaheim Convention Center.  Each D23 Expo is full of special panels, meet and greets, celebrities, and announcements of anything Disney related! Since Disney has grown so big, that includes Pixar, Marvel, Lucas film, theme parks, Disney Channel, Disney XD, and so much more!

There were so many special moments at this year’s D23 Expo, but let me make it easy for you and break down some of the best takeaways from the amazing weekend.

Star Sightings

The stars all aligned this weekend to bring you a fully packed star studded weekend.  So, let’s review by the day. On the first day of the convention, Friday, July 14, the casts of Stuck in the Middle and the ever so anticipated sequel Descendants 2 graced us with their presence. Cameron BoyceBooboo Stewart, and China Anne McClain even played a game with the audience during one of the panels.

Of course, that’s not all. On Friday, our favorite Disney princesses came together to announce their role with the “Wreck It Ralph” sequel “Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck It Ralph 2.” Irene Bedard (Pocahontas), Jodi Benson (Ariel), Kristen Bell (Anna), Auli’i Cravalho (Moana), Linda Larkin (Jasmine), Kelly Macdonald (Merida), Mandy Moore (Rapunzel), Paige O’Hara (Belle), and Anika Noni Rose (Tiana) took the stage to give the audience a little sneak preview of their scene.

As if that wasn’t enough, on Saturday, the newest Spiderman, Tom Holland, took the carpet along side Benedict Cumberbatch. I really didn’t know what I wanted in life until I saw that duo.  Along for the ride was the cast of “A Wrinkle in Time” including Chris PineReese WitherspoonMindy Kaling, Oprah Winfrey, and Storm Reid. Together, they came out to present the trailer for their new movie.

On this day too, we learned how Ariel, our favorite mermaid, inspired our long haired princess, Rapunzel. You see, Mandy Moore started singing after being inspired by Jodi Benson, the voice of the “Little Mermaid.” If that doesn’t make you say AWH, I don’t know what will!

Rounding up the star sightings, on Sunday, Jordan Fisher could be found at the Disney Music Emporium meeting fans.  He wasn’t the only one meeting fans though. Mandy Moore was joined by Zachary Levi and the rest of the “Tangled” cast for a fun meet and greet.

I’m telling you guys, when I say this weekend was star studded, I really meant it!

Movies Galore

Okay, so the D23 Expo is so much more than just celebrity sightings, though that is a great part of it.  There were so many amazing movie announcements that came out of this weekend.  Let me try to break it down for you.

First of all, Disney had us all fooled when they told us they had problems casting for the live action “Aladdin.” Because, guess what they announced to us this weekend. Yup, that’s right, the cast of “Aladdin,” and you’re going to want to know who’s in it. So it begins with Mena Massoud in the role of Aladdin. Then we have Naomi Scott, aka our girl Mo from the Disney Channel Original Movie “Lemonade Mouth.” And last, but certainly not least, Will Smith is our Genie! Wow, I wish they’d just release the movie NOW!

Next up, we finally have the trailer of the new movie “A Wrinkle in Time” starring the likes of Chris Pine, Oprah Winfrey, Storm Reid, and Rowan Blanchard.

We also have some news on the “Incredibles 2” movie that comes out on June 15, 2018. Basically, the sequel starts off a minute after the first one ended. You best believe I’m watching “The Incredibles” right before hitting up the theatre on the 15th.

Marvel had some sneak peeks for the audience as well. The “Avengers: Infinity Wars” sneak peek had the entire audience shook. You’ve got the Guardians, Thor, Scarlet Witch, Toni Stark, and Peter Parker and basically anyone else you can imagine. I mean, just, HOW? We’ll just have to wait and find out, I guess!

There was so much packed into such a short weekend. I am definitely putting the 2019 D23 Expo in my calendar already! Which part of the D23 Expo were you most excited to see? Comment below or tweet us!
