“Guilt” Series Premiere Recap: Pilot

If the series premiere of Guilt is any indicator of the rest of the season, it seems like Freeform has found it’s summer hit. The newest drama revolves around an American student in London whose roommate is brutally murdered during a night of partying. With plenty of guilt to go around, episode one already leaves us with many questions, suspects and twists. Something I think viewers should get used to!

The episode is introduced with American student, Grace (Daisy Head) and her Irish roommate, Molly, out at a club.  They decide to have an after party, filled with lots of drugs and alcohol leading to the brutal discovery of Molly’s body in the morning.  The media frenzy doesn’t take long to arrive and pronounce Grace the “American Psycho.”  This story is strikingly similar to the real life case of Amanda Knox.

The series premiere introduced a plethora of characters, which may take a couple episodes to get straight.  Detective Bruno (Christian Solimeno) and prosecutor Gwendolyn (Naomi Ryan) are quick to discover that Grace’s boyfriend, Luc, and Molly had a very “friendly” relationship.  With this revelation Bruno is quick to make Luc a suspect and Gwendolyn was quick to throw Grace in the “jealous girlfriend” suspect category.  Trying to jump on the train to Paris didn’t look good for either of their cases.

Lucky for Grace her lawyer sister, Natalie (Emily Tremaine), comes to her aid immediately and with the lawyer their step-father hired it seems as though Grace should be in good shape.  Hot-shot lawyer, Stan,  is played by Billy Zane.  Through the hiring of Stan, we’re also introduced to the conflict between Grace and Natalie and their stepfather.  Natalie also implies that he could be involved somehow to the murder of Molly.  It wasn’t touched on much, but I don’t think it’s the last we’ll hear of this subject.

Another lead suspect thus far is their college professor.  Surprisingly finding out that Grace had relations with him and resulted in her slashing her tires when she found out he was married.  As we find out more about Grace and her past it seems as though they definitely want you to question her character.  It is working.  Is she really just this innocent, American girl caught in this horrible situation?  Or is she a crazed, sociopath?  This ten episode series is promised to give us an answer by the end, and we can’t wait.

Other character’s introduced that I believe we’ll learn more about as the series progresses are Prince Theo, Molly’s brother, DJ and Molly and Grace’s roommate Roz.

Thank you freeform for giving us another addicting, mystery that will leave us asking questions and creating theories until we’re given the next episode.  This is definitely the must-watch series of the summer that you don’t want to miss.
