She won, “Best Female Vocalist” at the Hollywood Music In Media Awards, has a new EP “The One,” and a female empowerment podcast “Boss, Please.” Malynda Hale is changing the world… We’re excited to learn all about her crazy music career and life. This is an inspiring interview you won’t want to miss!
Congratulations on your recent single, “Something Worth Fighting For!” What was the inspiration behind the song and the meaning it has to you?
Thank you! I actually started writing that song a year ago to be a part of a musical with my friend. It took a different turn and I realized I wanted to work on the song myself. I write songs that are very positive, inspirational and uplifting, But also radio friendly. So, I rewrote some of the lyrics with another friend. I really just wanted to have a song that reminded people to keep fighting for everything they want and to keep going. For people to wake up every morning and remember why they are here because everyone has a purpose.
What has been the reaction and feedback you have gotten so far?
Everyone feels encouraged and very inspired which is the reason why I wrote it. I want people to be the best version of themselves. They can accomplish anything. And based off of the feedback I feel like I did my job.
You also just released a full EP, “The One” a few days ago. Describe some of the events and experiences that have led to this incredible EP.
It has been three years since I released a full EP or album so I really wanted to take the time and write songs that were truly from my heart. I have been inspired by Gavin DeGraw and Colbie Caillat among other artists which have inspired the EP. The song called, ‘Chicago’ was about when I moved there with my husband and had nothing but it became home to me. All of the songs tell a story like that. I think it will give people a glimpse into who I am as a person. And as an artist as well.
You’re clearly having a very successful music career, last year you won “Best Female Vocalist” at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards. What was your initial reaction when you won?
I was shocked. I think that was the first big award I won and now when I watch award shows and how the people write their speeches in advance, I totally understand it. When I got up there to accept my award, I just forgot everything I wanted to say. But it was a true honor and that brought a lot more opportunity for me as well, especially in the LA community.
If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self before your career really took off what would it be?
I always look back and say, ‘if I did that then, I wonder what would be different?” But I think the biggest thing that I tell myself is that it is okay to hear the word ‘no.’ It isn’t that scary of a word and you can’t be afraid to ask because you may hear it. If you hear ‘no’, just move on to the next thing. It does not mean all of the doors are closed, it means that door is closed and another door is opening soon. We get so afraid of rejection, but we all grow from it.
It’s amazing how you use your platform to bring change and awareness to platforms such as female empowerment, Black Lives Matter and LGBTQ rights. Can you tell us about some of the work you have done through your music?
Music has always been the universal language, in my opinion. When you go through things, there is always music. I wanted to use my music to start a conversation. I have written many songs about the LGBT community because we need to bring awareness to that topic. Then I wrote a song for the Black Lives Matter movement because it is very dear to my heart. It is more than a hashtag and people forget to look into what the actual purpose of that phrase is. I had a lot of people tell me when they heard some of those songs that they actually understand it now. Those causes are just so important to me and if you use music to bring more awareness to them it is something we can all relate to.
As if you already aren’t doing enough to spread your voice and create change, you also host the femme-empowerment podcast, “Boss, Please.” For anyone who hasn’t listened to the podcast, can you tell them what they can expect?
It is such a fun time and I really enjoy doing it. We started doing it about a year ago, me and two other girls. The idea was to make a female empowerment podcast. We bring on females who are bosses in their life or workplace… Producers, actresses, comedians and even stay-at-home moms because it is important to shed light on all the different ways a female is a boss and dominates that aspect of her life. We talk about a lot of different topics and we have incredible guests. I could not be more proud of what we have built. It is on Spotify, iTunes and iHeart Radio.
What can we expect to see from you for the rest of 2018?
I am going to start my tour and go into the MidWest, California, Arizona and many more stops. I am really excited to get back in the studio and start working. Hopefully I will have a little Christmas EP coming out later this year also. I am just going to continue working on this crazy music career.
