“Once Upon A Time” Recap: Devil’s Due

I KNEW IT!

Belle is pregnant! Who else knew that rendezvous before the winter break would result in this? And I really wish you all could see my notes in their entirety because I was writing like this…

FLASHBACK: Rumple comes back as the dark one; “I can’t owe a debt to a dead man” he crushes the guy’s heart BUT DID HE REALLY DIE OR JUST PLAY RUMPLE FOR LATER??

Gold tells Hades he wouldn’t do anything like that again; asked the crystal ball to “show me your child” and Belle shows up CAUSE SHE’S PREGNANT! OMG CALLED IT!! OH WHAAAT?! HADES OWNS HIS NEXT BABY NOW! HE TOOK THE CONTRACT!!

Yes, this is how I watch the show and takes notes for myself. But let’s start from the beginning…

The flashbacks this episode focus on Mila and Rumple, pre-Dark One. While the two argue, Bellefleur gets bitten by a poisonous snake and the only cure is from a man who wants 100 gold coins for it. Mila tells Rumple, this is the time to be a real man and kill for it. They go to a bar where Mila meets Killian for the first time, he saves her from a drunkard trying to wipe a spilled drink on her chest. She’s smitten with him but does inform him she has a husband and a son. Killian walks away but not before telling her if her situation ever changes, she should look him up. He ports there often. Meanwhile, Rumple goes to the hut of the man who has the magic, but Rumple can’t find the courage to kill him. The man takes the opportunity to strike a deal with Rumple. He will give Rumple the magic if Rumple promises him his second child. Rumple agrees and tells Mila about the deal. She’s devastated that he gave up on their future as a family. He says the three of them are all the family they need and they just won’t have a second child. Mila is distraught and leaves, heading to the pub where she met Killian.

Years go by and Rumple turns into the Dark One. He visits the man who contracted to have his second child and kills him. But in the Underworld he lives on…

In present time, Emma and Gold team up to find Hook. They need a dead person willing to go with them and he enlists his ex-wife Mila, who is stuck keeping an eye on the dead children in the Underworld. She agrees to go with them to find her past love. Emma finds and saves Hook, but while she’s away, Gold gets approached by Hades who makes him an offer he can’t refuse…destroy the boat that takes them back to the living and in return Hades makes sure he gets back to his wife. Gold destroys the boat and sends Mila deeper into Hell by sending her to the river. Gold lies to Emma and Hook as they approach telling them Hades did this to them. They reunite with heroes at the apartment.

While Emma and Gold were off saving Hook, Regina seeks out Daniel’s grave to see if he’s okay. She encounters Cruella who gives her a map of the graveyard and explains the difference in headstones: face up means they’ve gone to a better place, straight up and down means they’re still in the Underworld with unfinished business and one with a crack is the worst. This means they went to a place worse than Hell. Daniel’s is face up and Regina is relieved and she realizes she has her powers back. When she meets up with all the heroes again, she is about to split Emma’s heart as to take Hook back to the living with them…but her heart is blocked.

It turns out, Hades took the lives of Emma, Snow and Regina, since Hook wouldn’t choose. Now our heroes are left with a serious problem of getting back.

Gold leaves them to find Hades and ask to get back home to Belle. Hades says he has been watching Gold and wondered why he dropped the crystal ball earlier when he saw Belle. It turns out Gold wasn’t looking for Belle, he was looking for his child…and Belle is pregnant with his next child! Hades took this opportunity to find the contract Gold had made years ago and have it signed over to him. Now Hades can take Gold’s next born!

Wow what an ending!!! I have a feeling Gold will be doing some terrible things to keep Hades at bay. And if I’m a betting girl, I put my money on The Dark One before Hades. Hades may win some battles but Gold will win the war. I’m wondering if the live ones can split their hearts to save the now dead ones…can Robin for Regina? Henry for Emma? Gold for Hook? That’s a lot of hearts breaking though and very unlikely. And is Henry looking for that quill yet? If he can write them back to the living, all their problems will be solved. He should let them in on that little secret. It would also mean more air time for Cruella darlings!
