Unlikely frenemies Cruella and Henry take a ride to find the quill, to help Cruella and the heroes get back to the world of the living. Henry sees a light in the distance, so the two split up in the woods. Henry stumbles upon the Apprentice, who warns Henry not to create the stories but rather to tell them. The Apprentice does tell Henry that the answers he seeks are in the Sorcerer’s house and that the key was stolen from the Apprentice by Charming’s brother James.

Meanwhile, Emma fixes Hook’s wounds with light magic and tries to kiss him but Hook turns away. He doesn’t feel worthy of being saved or of Emma’s love, since he turned to the Darkness so quickly. Their conversation is cut short when Hook’s brother Liam knocks on the door. The trio catch up and Liam warns them about trying to take down Hades. Many have tried before and failed. He does mention that all of them mentioned some kind of book that they needed to succeed. Emma says it must be the storybook, so they head to Snow’s apartment to look for it.

While the heroes look for the storybook, Liam confronts Emma about her relationship with Hook. He tells her to leave Hook alone and that she isn’t good enough for him. At first she’s distraught at the conversation, but later, after talking with Regina, she realizes there may be something more to Liam’s conversation. Henry tells the heroes he knows how to get the storybook, so Charming and Snow go to James’ office to get the key. Snow passes it off to Regina, Emma, Hook, Henry and Liam to enter the mansion. Inside, Liam finds the book and rips out some pages. Pages which Hades had told him to dispose of earlier in the episode. Hades had threatened Liam about exposing his secret if he didn’t get rid of the evidence. Emma walks up to Liam just as he ditches the pages in a well, she exposes his brother to Hook, but Hook won’t believe her. His brother has never done a bad thing in his life. He scolds Emma, who walks away, disappointed in Hook. Hook then notices the ink from the pages on Liam’s hand. He can’t believe his brother would lie to him! And then suddenly a bunch of men appear and explain to Hook that’s not all Liam’s lied about…

Flashback to Liam and Hook basically enslaved on a ship. Liam comes up with a plan to get enough money to buy their freedom, by joining the King’s Navy. When Killian slips up and gambles his money away, Liam chooses to stay by Killian’s side. As they sail off to head towards the Eye of the Storm, Liam and the workers stage a mutiny and take over the ship. Liam goes below deck to make a plan when Hades appears and offers Liam a deal: sink the ship and Liam and Killian can live. He will also give Liam the stone from the Eye of the Storm so that he can join the King’s Navy like he always dreamed. Liam agrees and the ship sinks, saving only himself and Killian. The stumble on shore from the wreck and run into naval personnel who offer them both a spot on their ship after Liam presents them with the stone.

Back in the Underworld, Hook and Liam are dragged off to the fire pits and are about to be thrown off the cliffs when Hades arrives. He means to save Liam, who did his bidding, and for once and for all get rid of Hook. Liam saves his brother and falls to the fire pits, after Hook forgives him for his lies. Then, a bright light shows and brings Liam up from the depths. Hades disappears as he yells they will pay for this! Liam and the sailors are saved and sail to a better place. Hook goes back to Emma to apologize to her, all is forgiven as Henry tells the group about the quill. He decides not to create but to record the stories. And they need to find out Hades’ story.

At the end of the show is the big moment: Hades has a past with Zelena! Hades gets the pages back from the well and there’s a picture of Hades with Zelena. So wicked is coming back.

Before we get to my thoughts about Zelena and Hades having some sort of love affair, I really have to say I loved Charming in this episode! Him being seduced by Cruella was hilarious! Thank you writers for throwing that in there. I can’t wait to see Snow’s reaction when she learns they kissed several times, especially since jealous Charming learning James kissed Snow was so cute. Cruella is one of the best things to happen in this episode, especially since she knew all along Charming was pretending to be James and she was having fun seeing how far he was willing to go. I also liked his grandpa moment with Henry at the end. Yes Henry, this is a lesson for you, stop having an Emo teen moment. Charming lived up to his name this episode.

And was it just me or was Liam truly annoying in this episode? They poked fun at his self-righteousness but man it was overwhelming. I found nothing likeable about him this time around and then it spread to Hook. Hook should know better than anyone that nobody’s perfect. There’s a part of me that kind of wishes he didn’t get saved from the fire pits. He was too abrasive. Just my opinion though.

In terms of this budding romance between Hades and Zelena that we will learn more about next week, I’m not too excited for Zelena to come back. I love the actress and I think the cast and crew do as well because they keep inviting back a character who is honestly terrible. Her reasoning behind being wicked wasn’t strong enough in my opinion. If you’re going to go that route, go the Cruella explanation that she’s just plain psychopath. I can appreciate that more than trying to pin it on Regina having their mother’s attention. I’m sure Regina would would’ve gladly traded than to have a mother who was abusive and murderous.

Who else is less than thrilled to have Zelena return? What do you think about Henry taking on the role of Author again? Let me know in the comments below and tweet me @kristincarole13!
