Pretty Little Liars S7 E14 Recap: Power Play

Saying tonight’s episode of Pretty Little Liars was intense is an extreme understatement. Not only are the pieces of the puzzle finally starting to come together; but we are also starting to get answers on the things that have kept us questioning everything we knew for the past few seasons.

Aria bunks at Ali’s house when Nicole shows up at Ezra’s. Although Aria had reservations about Nicole showing back up in Ezra’s life, he reassures her that Nicole being alive and safe doesn’t change a thing about how he feels about her (Aria). However, Nicole is having issues with leaving Ezra and Rosewood when she discovers that he wrote a book about their past.

This week, the board games chooses Ali to take her turn. It was also revealed that the liars must solve the puzzle in the center of the board game before the detectives solve the murder of Archer Dunhill. If they fail this task, they will all be going to jail.

Mr. Hastings has spent time looking for Mary and hired a private investigator to try and find her.
Spencer and Marco have an adult sleepover, but it is cut short the morning after when Marco gets a call about one of his investigations.

Later that day, Detective Furey shows up at Rosewood High School to talk to Ali about Archer. He explains that they received a finger from an anonymous source, and forensics confirmed it was his. Therefore, Rosewood P.D. now officially knows it’s a homicide investigation. Marco also asked Ali if she had any idea where Mary Drake was, for she is now a person of interest in the murder.

Paige is considering leaving Rosewood for a coaching job in Iowa, but turns it down in hopes to pursue something once again with Emily.

The board game is taunting Aria with FaceTime calls and blackmailing her with everything they know about her and her past. Seeming to have had enough of their abuse, she threatens to quit the game altogether. In result, she gets a text message from A.D. with directions to a disclosed location, asking her to met them there.

Her directions lead her to a limo, where she is instructed to get inside. As she closes the door, she finds herself sitting across from someone in a signature black hoodie. Sydney pulls down the hood, revealing herself as the woman in black. Aria once again tells Sydney that she wants out. Sydney claims that she only revealed herself because Aria seemed desperate and she likes desperate. Sydney then continues with asking Aria if she wants to join the other side and be on the winning team.

Ali confides in Emily, revealing that she made an appointment to terminate her pregnancy. Since it was Ali’s turn to play the game, it almost seemed obvious that her turn would be about making her feel guilty for terminating her pregnancy.

She was instructed to go to a baby department store where she begins a registry. The department clerk handed Ali a gift after completing her time in the store, saying they made the custom gift for her donor that she requested. Ali questions the clerk and they tell her once again it was the gift you requested we make for your egg donor. When she opens the gift, she sees it’s a necklace with the name ‘Emily’ on it. Realizing A.D. implanted her with Emily’s stolen eggs from the hospital, Ali decides to cancel her appointment to terminate the pregnancy. Now all that’s left to do, is tell Emily she’s carrying her child.

Hanna decides to help Spencer look for Mary Drake. During the search, it leads them to the house of Ted. Remember him? Ashley’s (Hanna’s mom) one time fiancé. After catching up a little, Hanna told him that they were looking for Mary Drake and if he knows anything about her disappearance to let them know. Later that night, Ted contacts Hanna to tell her that he lied to her earlier in the day. He did know where Mary was. In fact, she was staying with him at his house.

He also confides in Hanna, telling her that he and Mary dated in college and had a child together, named Charles. Yes, Cece Drake. He showed Hanna a photo he had of him and Charles with one of his friends from camp. It was revealed to be Lucas.

Spencer has a talk with her dad about Mary Drake. He claimed the last time he saw Mary was when he found her inside their house late at night after she snuck into Spencer’s bedroom to see her. Although it was revealed that she wasn’t there to actually see Spencer, it was to get revenge on Mr. Hastings. Mary killed her twin sister Mrs. D and wanted to frame him for it. Now all he wants to do is protect Spencer.

In the final minutes, the girls all gather around the game board as it prepares to choose who plays next. Although it was seemed to be no question it would be Aria because she was the only one not to take a turn yet, the girls all get a shock. The game chose Hanna for the second time. Could this be because the game is giving her another opportunity to finish her turn? Or is A.D. giving Aria a break in hopes that she joins ‘the winning side’?

Almost simultaneously as all of this was going on, Aria receives a text from A.D. (well… Sydney) asking if she has made a decision (on joining them) yet.

Do you really think Aria will abandon her friends and join A.D.? Don’t miss an all new Pretty Little Liars, directed by Troian Bellisario at 8/7c on Freeform.
