“Recovery Road” Recap: Parties Without Borders

This week on “Recovery Road” we anxiously await to see if Maddie gives into temptation at her boyfriend Zach’s 18th birthday party. Can she resist? I mean she is the host so she should be sober, right? Or is this host down to break some rules? Lets get this party started, yeah?

Episode four begins with another flashback, except this time we take a look at Vern’s past. This is where we find out that his bestie Cynthia is the one who came to his rescue. After some bff arguing Cynthia convinces him to go to Springtime Meadows, and I think we can all agree that it was the best thing for Vern! He’s just so perfect for every resident there, right?!

In the present time, Craig announces that they will be having visitors from an LA sober house for a few days, because their house has “termites”. Verne is the most excited one because A-listers can be among one of the visitors. He shortly learns how big of jerks they are, since they act so fabulous and too good for the funhouse.

Another announcement…. Maddie opened up! Yes you read it correctly! Maddie shared with her housemates that she feels cut off from her life, of course she doesn’t go into full detail, but her vulnerability and cracked tone, lets us know that she is making progress and is starting to trust those around her. In result of this Craig gives her, her phone back. We all know how no one can live with out their phones nowadays, so this is HUGE!

Even more huge, Maddie gets a reminder that her boyfriends birthday is coming up. Yikes! How can she possibly pull off any type of celebration when she has curfew and check-ins and she can only leave the house with an adult…and OMG talk about stress for a teen, total sarcasm btw. Well enter mama Charlotte to the rescue. Maddie asks her mom for help in just taking Zach out to dinner. She assures her mom that it will only be her and Zach. Although Charlotte is nervous she agrees to the plan.

However, sneaky little Maddie plans a party, a hotel party to be exact. She is overly excited about this and shares it with Wes, and leave it to Wes to rain on her parade. He starts to question whether she can sustain from drinking and using drugs. We can’t blame him though, they all need each other to stay sober. Maddie is confident that she can stay sober and leaves it at that. Wes then gets her phone and takes a selfie. Okay pause…. I seriously thought he was sending it to Zach at that moment. But for the moment all he does is put her phone down… whew!

So lets get to the party! Lucky for Maddie the surprise for Zach goes well. Everyone seems to be enjoying the party and Maddie has even been served alcohol, but plays it off and doesn’t drink it. Further into the party, its pill popping time. Zach takes the first one and Maddie is next. She sticks her hand in the bowl and OH EM GEE…gasp!!! I thought to myself, how will she get away with not taking one? Everyone is watching! Well Maddie again plays it off by saying that she will start off with a “cocktail” first. Yay, I can breathe again. (Insert relief emoji). Awe and now lets get into the sweet side of the party. Maddie displays a picture slide show in honor of Zach. AHHHHH again I thought, did Wes somehow include his selfie in the slide show, which would make this video totally awkward and make Maddie all nervous? Luckily that was not the case. Unfortunately though the video is interrupted by more of Zach’s friends who arrive and then everyon else slowly starts getting up to continue partying. Well she tried, right?

By this point Maddie is over this whole party and knows she needs to get out. She calls the fun house, and Vern goes to her rescue! See why I say that Vern is just the perfect fit for everyone! Back to our sweet Maddie though, I am just so proud of her and all the progress she is making. She totally committed to staying sober! When she gets back to the funhouse she starts to see the beauty in life and the company of others without involving drugs and alcohol. I think we can all agree, it doesn’t matter what you’re doing, its who you are with (insert smiling face with halo) even if its silly. We finish the episode with a mysterious character outside with a lit paper? Curious? I know I am! So drop by next week to see what happens.
