“Recovery Road” Recap: The Art of the Deal

As you recall in episode one, Maddie comes across her ex-best friend Rebecca at Springtime Meadows. The second episode begins with a flashback of the two when they were friends…

In the scene we see the two getting high and talking about how they have no money and talk ideas of how to get money. Break an entry or sell drugs, like Rebecca’s Ritalin.

In the present we now see Maddie in counselor Cynthia’s office where she begins to rant on about how bad her stay at Springtime Meadows is. Maddie starts off by saying that the figurine her father gave her went missing. She also adds that this whole process is hard because she has no friends, no phone, and she has curfew (um can I just add that I’m in my mid-20’s, college degree and I still have curfew). Cynthia then suggests for Maddie to create a list of goals for the day and they will talk about them on the way back to the (sober) house. Maddie’s list of goals: Retrieve my missing figurine; get everyone to stop hating me; discover the meaning of life.

With Maddie living a double life she is faced with obstacles, which force her to lie about her recent change in life style. Needless her friends convince her to leave school. They arrive to a movie theater where Rebecca and Wes work at. Maddie pretended not to know Wes, and was quiet when Rebecca asked her questions. Total OMG moment and total girl on girl sneaky viciousness. The gang proceeds into the movie where Ellie starts bashing on Rebecca. After a while Ellie takes out a flask, offers Maddie some, and just when we are gasping, wondering if Maddie will drink some, Rebecca comes in and tells them to leave. Okay, pause; am I the only one who thinks Rebecca pretty much saved Maddie?? Once the gang leaves Ellie is about to key Rebecca’s car but, Maddie tells her to stop.

When Maddie gets back to the house, Cynthia has a talk with her and surprisingly Maddie tells the whole truth about where she was at, in result Cynthia lets her slide but warns Maddie it can not happen again. If that wasnt jaw dropping, Cynthia also comments to Craig that Cynthia was like Maddie. Thoughts? Early assumptions? I have plenty!

Meanwhile, Maddie is still on the hunt for her unicorn. She begins to raid Rebecca’s room. She finds herself holding the same stuffed rabbit where Rebecca used to hide the drugs in, that they used to sell. Sure enough she finds more pills stuffed inside.

After an intense search in Rebecca’s room, Maddie is in the kitchen with her housemates preparing dinner, and that’s when all hell breaks loose. Rebecca approaches Maddie and they begin to accuse each other of taking personal belongings. This is where Rebecca comes clean about how she knows Maddie, ‘The eveil ex-bestfriend.” All housemates are in complete shock and Craig breaks up the argument before it got worst. Flashback to when the duo was selling drugs; Becca got caught in the girls restroom and was arrested. Maddie didn’t do much to help, (so Rebcca states) hence why Becca hates Maddie.

Back in Maddie’s room, Trish tells Maddie that she was behind the missing unicorn. Trish explains to Maddie that she was dancing and accidently knocked it over, and when it broke, she saw drugs and joints in it. Side note, Trish has goals of her own, like getting her daughter back, which means she needs a lawyer which means she needs money. Which is why she confesses that she sold the drugs to get the money for “Bulldog” the lawyer.

After this surprising confession, Maddie makes her way to Rebecca’s room to apologize for accusing her of steeling her unicorn. However Maddie also calls her out on the pills she found stuffed in the rabbit. Maddie is one hand away from flushing them down the toilet when Rebecca claims that the pills help her to stay sober. Ummm recovery pills? Do we believe her? Apparently Maddie did and gave the pills back to her.

As we recall Maddie made a list of goals for the day and so far she completed two. She got her unicorn back and “everyone” which really meant “one person” to stop hating her. That “one person” was Wes. All because he told Maddie he wasn’t avoiding her for the reason she thought, (they got caught sneaking out) and he made a comment that he wasn’t ignoring her now, since we see them both comfy on the couch. Oh boys. (Insert heart smirking emoji)

We end the episode with Rebecca in the restroom cutting her inner thigh. Episode two was full of surprises and twists; lets see what happens next!
