“Shadowhunters” Recap: Of Men and Angels

This was, in fact, the most dramatic episode so far in the season! Luke almost died, Simon and Jace butted heads, Clary discovered the truth behind Valentine’s behavior and #Malec IS ALIVE!

Episode 6, “Of Men and Angels”, begins where we left off. Luke has just rescued Clary and the gang from a pack of werewolves. During the fight scene in episode 5 Luke was bitten by the alpha before defeating him. Once we realize that Luke has now taken over as alpha of that pack, he collapses. Jace tells the group that Luke needs a warlock’s magic to be saved. So, of course, Clary and the rush Luke to see Magnus.

Everybody’s favorite warlock! Magnus has a very eloquent eccentricity. I am very happy we got to see a more vulnerable side of him in this episode. Especially when he is trying to save Luke and keep Clary calm about the situation. When Magnus is first introduced it doesn’t seem like he really cares for anyone’s safety but his own. As we see his character progress we can definitley say that is not the case. While waiting for Jace and Simon to return with the remaining ingredients needed to cure Luke, Magnus filled in some holes in Clary’s memory. He told her of the uprising and Valentine’s past, but it was nothing compared to the weight of what Luke would tell her later.

Simon and Jace have some tension, don’t they? While Jace obviously shows interest in Clary, he denies it. While Simon denies his feelings for Clary, he shows it completely. But is this really why Simon has been acting so strange? The way he attacked Jace and held that knife to his neck was definitely not our bestie Simon. Ever since the vampire lair he’s been a bit off, dontcha think?

After Luke is healed from the poison and he finally gets a chance to talk to Clary, he reveals that he and Jocelyn were actually the reason that Valentine is the way he is. Apparently, Jocelyn and Luke grew closer when they both began to sense a change in Valentine before the Uprising. Valentine thought they were having an affair, and this drove him to break his parabatai bond with Luke, and he was the reason Luke is now a werewolf.

Let’s discuss the #Malec moment! When Alec arrived and he saw Magnus struggling to hold onto his magic to save Luke, Alec ran to his side and it was the most adorable thing in the world! They finally got to have their drink afterwards! Although Magnus was making it obvious what he wanted, Alec is still confused. Struggling with your identity has got to be even tougher in the Shadowhunter world.
