On January 19th Freeform aired the second episode of “Shadowhunters: The Descent Into Hell Isn’t Easy.” In this week’s recap we will discuss some differences between The Mortal Instruments books series and Shadowhunters, the Silent Brothers, #Clace and Simon! The plot is thickening, my friends! Get your runes ready, SPOILERS AHEAD!

Woah. That is all I could say at the end of episode 2! For those of us that have read the books: Did you think they would reveal that Valentine is Clary’s father that quickly? It’s only episode 2 for goodness sake! For those who have not read the books: What was your reaction? Were you shocked? That is a major plot point and I can see why they would want to get it out there early in the season, I just didn’t think it would be the second episode! For those of us that have read the books, we know what’s coming and we don’t like it. That is assuming the writers are trying to keep the original story intact.
Also, let’s talk about Hodge. He has got to hate that rune on his neck that burns anytime he talks about Valentine. I think I pictured him a little older than he is portrayed in Shadowhunters, but I think they picked the perfect person to play him though.
So the episode begins where we left off and Clary makes the decision to trust that Jace can help her find her mother, Jocelyn. Jace figures out that Clary’s memories have been wiped by a warlock, and we assume Dot is the one who took her memories, but we all remember Jocelyn’s flashback. After a failed attempt at finding Dot, Clary makes the decision to try and get her memory back. So the gang travels to the City of Bones. Even though he was encouraged not to, Simon still tags along. Who would let their best friend go to hell alone? Yes, Simon is our favorite!
So the Silent Brothers, am I right? They creeped me out just as much as they did in the books. I don’t think the writers could have produced that entire scene any better. So it is decided that only Jace and Clary will enter the City of Bones. Which means we get a #Clace scene! I love the fact that Clary is basically Jace’s kryptonite. He is so guarded and puts up so many walls, but Clary just brings them right down without effort. Of course, poor Alec is so jealous of the attention Jace gives Clary. I’m ready for Magnus and Alec to meet.

d. Our beloved Simon has been captured by some lowlife vampires and we can’t stand it! I have a strong feelings that next week’s episode is going to be hitting us right in the feels.
