Teen Choice 2016 Awards

Things were burning up at the 2016 Teen Choice Awards, but Selena Gomez, Kendall Jenner, Fifth Harmony and the cast of “Pretty Little Liars” can now cool down riding their brand-new surfboards!

Nominated for six awards, the cast of “Pretty Little Liars” dominate the TV scene taking home awards for: Choice TV Drama, Choice TV Drama Actor: Ian Harding, Choice TV Drama Actress: Ashley Benson, Choice TV Villain: Janel Parrish, Choice TV Scene Stealer: Sasha Pieterse, and Choice TV Chemistry: Ashley Benson and Tyler Blackburn.

Freeform was also represented with first-season show, “Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments” taking a board home for: Choice TV Breakout show and  Choice TV Breakout Star: Matthew Dadario.

For the music category, no surprise here, Justin Bieber walked away with three wins for: Choice Male Artist, Choice Song Male Artist, and Choice Breakup song. Speaking of break ups, Justin’s ex, Selena Gomez walked away with Choice Female Artist and Choice Summer Music Star, along with Choice Instagrammer. I mean, how could Selly G not win that category when she holds the title of most followed on Instagram?!

The award show wasn’t all fun and games, Jessica Alba and Ne-Yo asked everyone watching to stop the gun violence. Holding back the tears, and emotional Alba introduced a stage full of teens whose lives have been affected by gun violence — from Sandy Hook, Orlando to San Bernardino. “Tonight we stand together with these teens, united in our call for peace and an end to this violence.” Alba said before Ne-Yo performed “What’s Going On.” #StopTheViolence

The big award of the night went to Justin Timberlake, who accepted the Decade Award. It was fun to see the video montage of everything the former N*Sync singer has accomplished. With comedy, drama, singing, dancing and more, he is even more than a triple threat in this industry, yet does it with such poise and humility.

When accepting the award, the “Can’t Stop Dancing” singer made sure to give some sound advice, “You will make mistakes along the way, I have many times, but what we do after that fall is how we make history because impossible is nothing. Be nice to your parents. They aren’t perfect either, but they’ve been through this movie before, and they love you more than you can imagine.”

“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” Timberlake concluded with.

It’s hard to pick the best performance of the night, but I might have to go with Jason Durulo who closed out the show with a medley of his famous songs. The “Solo” singer always knows how to take over the stage and make you dancing at home!
