“The Bachelorette” Week 2 Recap

Hey Bachelorette fans! We have a lot to discuss this week. The bachelor mansion was full of drama, new romances, and some serious bro-talk. I personally found this week to be extremely entertaining and even a bit funny. Let’s get to it!

THE BACHELORETTE - "Episode 1202" - Twenty anxious men look to get their love story with JoJo off to a good start. The the first group date give ten lucky bachelors a chance to see sparks fly when they head for a firefighting training facility, where one of the guys might need saving himself. JoJo and Derek get to pick their own adventure, and they choose a romantic picnic by the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Six bachelors get a dream date to ESPN's popular "SportsNation" with hosts Max Kellerman and Marcellus Wiley. They are sure they will be able to help JoJo find a perfect match, but Chad seems determined to "shock and awe" all the way up to the rose ceremony, on "The Bachelorette," MONDAY, MAY 30 (8:00-10:01 p.m. EDT), on the ABC Television Network. This week we got to go on the first group date. JoJo heated things up by making the men dress up like firemen and save her from a “burning” building. I’m sure this group date was a crowd pleaser. Who doesn’t like sexy firemen? So, first the men had to go through fire academy training. This seemed really intense and difficult but the men didn’t complain. Not even Wells complained and he was clearly having a really rough time. Wells was a good sport and I was definitely cheering him on. Only a small group of men were chosen to compete. Amongst those men were Wells and Grant. Yes, Grant is a real life firefighter. No, it was no surprise that we won. Although, if I was one the guys that lost it would make me feel better knowing I lost to an actual firefighter. The group date went well and Wells got the group date rose. I was smiling from ear to ear for Wells but mostly because he was on my list on week 1 and I was happy that I was right.

My ultimate Man Crush Monday; Derek got the first one-on-one date. JoJo and Derek made a series of decisions which ultimately led them to San Francisco where they shared their first kiss *squeal*. Derek got into some deeper conversation with JoJo and talked about a past relationship where he was left heartbroken. I wish I was there to comfort him but I suppose JoJo did a pretty good job. I’m glad Derek was on my list on week 1 because he and JoJo have a definite connection. He got a rose on the date but that was no surprise.

No, this episode was not all roses. There was some serious tension in the bachelor mansion. Chad seems to be making quite a bit of enemies. The men are just not vibing with him and his only friend in the house is Daniel.  In an awkward conversation between the two bro-migos, Chad shares some wise words with us and says; “I always tell girls to stay away from the nice guys.” Then there was some weird protein shake metaphors that I really didn’t understand.

The second group date is where the real anger towards Chad began. The men were put to the test on a fake game show called “Bachelor Nation” which was a spinoff of “Sports Nation.” The first challenge was to propose to JoJo. Chad didn’t like the idea of professing his love for JoJo because he said he doesn’t know her well enough to know what he loves about her. He then basically called all the other men fake and made fun of them. Not cool Chad! Confessing your love is basically the point of this show! Then Chad teased JoJo and called her naggy. The judges and JoJo admired Chad’s honesty but the men were extremely displeased. A series of challenges later led to James T. getting ranked first and Chad getting ranked second which left the men furious.

During the group date cocktail party JoJo gets deeper with Chad and he confesses that his mother past away only six months ago. James T. made JoJo cry with his poetic words and earned himself the group date rose. Chad admits that he felt like that should’ve been him.

Now, this is when it all gets awkward and funny. At the pre-rose ceremony cocktail party, the men have basically had it with Chad. They make several attempts to confront him but jeez was it hard to watch. Chad could basically care less about the tension and keeps eating. Chad may be the first person we’ve seen eat on the bachelor ever. The men confront Chad and basically are like “Chad, you ate a ton tonight.” Then one guy says “We don’t care about the food. That’s not why we’re mad at you.” This confrontation was so strange and it really didn’t resolve anything. Chad compares the men to a group of care bears and actors in “West Side Story,” which is strangely accurate. Chad decides to piss the men off even more so he interrupts a couple men’s time with JoJo. Alex takes personal offense to this and forms another uprising. Chad personally threatens Alex and calls him a “meltdown.” What does that even mean? All the men’s attempts to confront him were probably the worst I’ve ever seen. It’s all kind of a hot mess and the men are getting weirdly emotional about all this. Don’t they know it’s only week 2?

I really think the men need to learn to ignore Chad. The more attention they give him, the more he acts up. If his relationship with JoJo isn’t meant to be, it will fail on its own. They will only harm themselves if they continue to obsess. I do think Chad is a jerk and I really don’t appreciate his honesty. I think he needs to take some time and work on himself. If you can’t get along with that many people, you need to take a time out and reevaluate. Part of me does sympathize for Chad because of his recent loss. He has a lot of layers to him and I’m itching to learn more.

At the rose ceremony, JoJo sent three men home and Chad continued to snack. I’m looking forward to next week’s episodes to see what happens between the men and Chad. Game on.
