“The Bachelorette” Week 4 Recap

I just want to take a minute before we get started to nominate this season for the award of having the most deceiving previews ever! I can’t be the only one who feels this way, right? Anyway, this week in JoJo land we were finally able to relax because our villain is gone! This means no drama, right? Wrong! In fact, a lot went down this week and we need to talk about it.

The episode started with the men hilariously celebrating the fact that Chad is gone. The men referred to this celebration as Chad’s “funeral.” They even spread protein powder around and referred to it as “Chad’s ashes.” The celebration takes a pause when the men see Chad knocking on the door. Chad explains to them that he didn’t get the rose and that he has to go home. The men (mostly Jordan) try to end things on good terms but Chad isn’t having it. Jordan and Chad have it out one last time before he goes. Meanwhile, Daniel is standing in the back eating some mysterious yellow pudding. When Chad is officially gone, we see Alex return from his date. The men consider Alex a hero because he defeated their villain. The men lift him up and do a victory dance, complete with fireworks and cupcakes.

At the rose ceremony cocktail party, things become more real for the men. I think the conflict with Chad was unifying the men because they had a mutual enemy. Now that Chad is gone the men are focusing more on each other and the competition. The men feel that they are being more “cut throat” with one another now that Chad is gone. JoJo shows up in yet another jaw dropping dress and the games begin. First, Luke pulls JoJo aside and tells her that he’s falling for her. Later, Jordan pulls JoJo aside and presses her against the wall for a steamy make out session. At the rose ceremony, JoJo says goodbye to James F. and Daniel. I wish she didn’t say goodbye to James F. but I have to learn to trust my girl JoJo’s decisions. Daniel gave one of the weirdest goodbye speeches in bachelor history where he realized that his “personality sucks.” Poor Daniel. We’ll miss your hilarious interviews. JoJo announced that she will be taking the men to Punta Del Este, Uruguay.

In Uruguay, Jordan lands the first international one-on-one date. His date card read, “let’s seal the deal.” When Jordan read his date card there was an awkward silence among the men. All the men seem to be a bit jealous of Jordan because him and JoJo have an obvious connection and he got the first impression rose. Jordan’s date card was quite literal because he and JoJo ended up swimming with seals. Back at the house, Vinny is giving some of the men haircuts while the other men are reading gossip magazines. The article in the magazine is about JoJo and her ex boyfriend who claims she’s on the show for the wrong reasons. The men become paranoid that maybe what they read is true and she’s still in love with her ex. They get all worked up over rumors. The group date card arrives and it says, “I can’t stand to be away from you.” Back on Jordan’s date, him and JoJo head to the dinner portion of the day. He tells JoJo that he’s falling in love with her. JoJo has strong feeling for Jordan but there is something holding her back. Apparently JoJo met an ex girlfriend of Jordan’s, who claims that he isn’t a good guy. JoJo is worried about this because her biggest fear is getting her heart broken again. She confronts Jordan about what this girl told her and he looks really nervous. He reassures her and says he has nothing to hide. She believes Jordan and gave him the rose.

Later during an interview, JoJo says this has been one of the best dates of her life. Just as she says how happy she is, one of the producers hands her the magazine that has her story inside it. She freaks out when she learns that the men have seen it. JoJo starts sobbing and saying that she hates her ex for doing this to her. She decides to go to the men’s suite and talk to them. The men comfort her and call it a “non-issue.” I was impressed by how supportive the men were. Looks like JoJo made all the men feel better and they did the same for her.

While most of the men are on a group date, Robby and Jordan decide to have a spa day. They were discussing their feelings and getting pampered while the other men were sand surfing with JoJo. The men have a blast sand surfing and showing off for JoJo. Back at the house, Robby and Jordan receive a date card. The card is for Robby and reads, “Love is within our reach.” At the group date cocktail party, Luke pulls JoJo aside first again. He reassures her about the tabloid incident and expresses his feelings for her. The other men do the same. Derek is feeling a bit insecure because his date with JoJo was so long ago. He shares his feelings with JoJo and she reassures him that they still have a connection. Alex expresses that he doesn’t like Derek and says that he is “calculated.” When Alex gets his chance to talk to JoJo he tells her that he can see himself falling in love with her. Alex thinks he should get the group date rose so he is furious when Derek gets it. JoJo says she wants to give the group date rose to someone she wants to “reassure.” When Alex hears her say that, he suddenly has it out for Derek.

On the one-on-one date with Robby, JoJo tells him that they are going to explore the town. She describes their relationship as “puppy love.” Later, they decide to jump off a cliff together and take a dive. If Robby wasn’t a professional swimmer, I don’t think JoJo would have agreed to do this. She says that Robby makes her feel alive and Robby says that he knows he loves JoJo. They really do have some visible chemistry. Back at the house, Alex and Chase decide to confront Derek. Alex is so catty and is always the center of all the drama. He was really bugging me this week. They pick on Derek for “needing reassurance” but Derek remains calm. At the dinner portion of Robby’s date he tells JoJo that he is an emotional person and she tells him that she feels very safe with him. Robby tells JoJo a story about how his best friend died in a car accident and that it gave him a new outlook on life because he realized that life is short. Then he tells JoJo that he’s fallen in love with her. She gave him the rose and they walked outside where Robby said this was one of the best days of his life. Then there was fireworks (literally and figuratively).

Finally at the rose ceremony, Derek pulls Chase, Alex, Jordan, and Robby outside to talk. Jordan tells him what he’s doing is “petty and a non-issue.” Alex takes jabs and says that Derek is “insecure as a man” and “calculated” for pulling them outside at the worst time. In my opinion, Alex is the most insecure. Why does he have to keep picking on other men? Wells gives Derek credit for having the balls to talk about what was bothering him. Chris Harrison walks in and announces that there will be no cocktail party and they will be moving straight into a rose ceremony. We said goodbye to Vinny, Grant, and Evan. I wasn’t really surprised by any of her choices but I will miss Vinny.
