Prepare for your newest Freeform addiction! The Bold Type follows three women in their twenties, trying to balance working at one of the most popular magazines in the country, Scarlett, all while dealing with the trials and tribulations of their personal lives.
The show is Executive Produced by Joanna Coles who as you might remember recently opened the doors to Cosmo Magazine in the E! show, So Cosmo.
The show has some similarities to So Cosmo and to the oldie, but goodie, The Devil Wears Prada. The inspiration behind the drama was from Joanna’s longtime career as a magazine editor at Cosmo among others.
From being an assistant at the magazine, Jane is promoted to writer, where her very first writing assignment, it forces her to come in contact with her past; her ex boyfriend to be exact.
Jane finally gets the courage to walk up to Eric at a park.
When Jane submits her article, she decided to go with, “How to Get Over it When the guy Leaves You Standing at the Train,” to which Jacqueline responded that it was excellent.
Sutton is an assistant at Scarlet Magazine. She spends her day answering phone calls and having a secret rendezvous with Richard, a board member at the magazine. Her cover is blown thought when Kat and Jane see her making out with Richard! The two girls warn her about the relationship and the possibility that she may screw up her career for screwing him!
At the end of the episode, Richard calls her and asks her to dinner and makes it more of a relationship than a hook-up.
As the Social Media Director at Scarlett magazine, Kat makes her voice heard as she attempts to continue a story that was cut from the magazine. The story she pursuing is about Adeena, a gay Muslim photographer. The two spend an evening packing vibrators for Adeena to take back to her home country. They find themselves bonding over sexual preference, Adeena’s Hijab, Adeena agrees that Kat can run the article! Adeena then finds herself possibly falling for Kat.
Kate later gets a call telling her that Adeena was detained at the airport because she was trying to smuggle the vibrators, or contraband.
