Our favorite TV family is back! Freeform’s “The Fosters” has returned for Season 3B and it was AMAZING! We returned to San Diego and Anchor Beach in full swing. Lets dive into “First Impressions” storylines head on! I want to format this recap a little differently. I will be recapping characters and storylines individuality instead of in chronological order. HERE WE GO!
(Freeform/Tony Rivetti)
Stef and Lena
Our fave mamas, Stef (Teri Polo) and Lena (Sherri Saum) started tonight a little rougher than where we last left them. Stef is still a little jealous over the Monte (recurring guest star Annika Marks) & she gets the perfect opportunity to ruin her when Monte comes back and apologizes to our mamas. Monte says that she is willing to leave Anchor Beach if that’s what they want. Luckily Stef is more understanding than that & decides to let her stay.
Stef’s mom Sharon (special guest star Annie Potts) is back! She is visiting the family, except for the fact that she keeps “taking walks” and disappearing. Where to? Oh well… She has a boyfriend! (played by former Fosters director Rob Morrow)
The good thing that comes out of this visit is Sharon’s insistence that Stef get a second opinion on her mammogram. Good thing too because… Stef has Stage 0 Cancer.
Callie
Callie (Maia Mitchell) is adjusting to officially being an Adams-Fosters, complete with awkward bathroom talk with Brandon (David Lambert) who as we know she slept with back in episode 3×09.
Lucky for her she doesn’t have to focus on that so much because her app ‘Fost and Found’ is really taking off. She meets an investor named Justina (guest star Kelli Williams) at a foster care event. Justina is offering $50,000 to invest in Callie & the app… But she is up to something. She lied straight to Callie’s face about Jack (guest star Tanner Buchanan) and I don’t appreciate that.
Our final moments with Callie show her on ‘Fost and Found’ looking at a thread that mentions her tryst with Brandon.
Jonnor
Jonnor is back and Jonnor made me sad. Jude (Hayden Byerly) is finally coming to terms with the fact that his boyfriend/best friend Connor (recurring guest star Gavin Machintosh) is moving & it is heartbreaking to watch. Connor doesn’t feel like his father Adam (recurring guest star Chris Bruno) will ever change. Even after Adam tries to convince him to stay, thanks to Lena talking to him, Connor has made his decision and that’s to go. We get a heart wrenching scene between Adam and Jude in the school hallway where Adam hugs Jude and apologizes for not doing more to make Connor feel better.
Elsewhere in the episode Jude makes a new friend in Jack, after he met him at the foster care event. This new friendship looks to be good for Jude but not so good for Jonnor shippers.
Brandon
After playing his concert at Disney Hall, Brandon gets approached by Julliard to audition for their music program. He is very wary though seeing has how their family can barely pay their bills much less a college tuition.
Mariana & Jesus
Jesus (played this time around by Noah Centino) is back at home! He is keeping his reason for being back home a secret from the family. He looks to have a fun storyline this season with his love triangle between ex girlfriends Emma (recurring guest star Amanda Leighton) and newly returned Lexi. (recurring guest star Bianca Santos)
We find out toward the end of the episode that Jesus returns back home because his teammates back at boarding school are taking steroids and he doesn’t want to be pressured to take them anymore.
Meanwhile Mariana is running for junior class president with Emma as her campaign manager and Lexi as her opposing rival. I smell drama!
Mike & AJ
Mike (Danny Nucci) has finally found the person responsible for the car crash that affected the family months ago and that culprit is none other than Ty (guest star Chris Warren), who is AJ’s (recurring guest star Tom Williamson) brother. Mike tries to keep what he has found a secret in order to let AJ have the only family he has left in his life. Yet Mike wasn’t ready for Stef to find out and boy did she ever. We saw a nice little fight between the two of them on the morals of letting Ty free or to arrest him.
AJ decided to side with his brother & run away with him on a bus to Arizona. Let’s hope that AJ has a plan. It sucks that AJ ran away because he just scored a date with Callie to a comic convention. Sorry Callie, looks like he might not make it to that date.
