“UnREAL” S2 E1 Recap: WAR

So, can we just give Shiri Appleby and Constance Zimmer emmy nominations now? Just when you thought the power duo of Rachel and Quinn couldn’t get any more ruthless than they were in Season 1, the Season 2 premiere of “UnREAL” proved us wrong. We were quickly shown that nothing is off limits on this season of Everlasting and with Quinn and Rachel finally in charge, it is their mission to make this the highest rated season yet!

Lifetime has no boundaries this season of “UnREAL” and I mean NOTHING. Quinn and Rachel are willing to cause whatever drama they can to ensure the best season of Everlasting the network has ever seen. First step in the equation? Make history by having the first ever black suitor on the show, which keep in mind ABC‘s popular hit “The Bachelor” has never done. They get the network on board with NFL quarterback, Darius Black, played by actor, B.J. Britt. Let me just say that B.J. Britt is some great eye candy for the season, but his character doesn’t seem to be very thrilled about his new gig. It seems as though he didn’t fully understand what he was signing up for, because he has no interest in playing by the rules.  L

Then of course casting the “crazies.”  They waste no time pulling in different conflicting personalities among the women and make sure both race and religion are issues brought it. Since this is just opening night, we’re not presented with much drama between the ladies on the show just yet.

Big drama stems when former man in charge, Chet, makes a surprise appearance back on the set! Quinn is not having it. Her kick-ass female character wants Chet no where near her set and sends him away, but not before he can cause some trouble of is own resulting in starting a “war” with Quinn. This will be fun to watch! Also, it is very important to mention that Chet was on a paleo retreat and came back about half the size and looking great!

One of the most enticing parts of episode one was seeing the characters adjusting to their new roles on the show. Particularly Rachel and Madison. With Rachel now as a show runner, you begin to see how too much power could be very damaging, definitely on someone with her history! She has no shame and is absolutely ruthless. While watching I couldn’t tell if I loved her or hated her, but I do know for certain that Shiri Appleby is absolutely brilliant. Madison was last season’s PA who gets a jump to producer by doing some “shameful” actions with Chet. She is now learning what exactly this producer role demands. With the puppet master, Rachel, leading the way it looks as though sweet, little Madison may be heading down the same path as Quinn and Rachel.  You get a very intense scene while Madison is conducting her first cast interview with one of the contestants and does whatever it takes to get that promo clip. Using the death of contestant’s fiance as a trigger point and having the nerve to ask “did you kill him” over and over again until the poor, contestant broke down.  It was tough to watch, but that is UnREAL for ya.

Overall, season 2 premiere did not disappoint. I’d go on a limb to say that this will be one of the most popular shows of the summer and will continue to shock and entertain each week!
