Pretty Little Liars Recap: New Guys, New Lies

First off, I need to pay tribute to my hometown, and wish everyone a Happy Groundhog Day! Punxsutawney Phil did NOT see his shadow, so spring is right around the corner. However, all of you Pop Heart readers on the West Coast have had beautiful weather all winter long; but some of us just aren’t that lucky!

Last week we had a birds eye view on what was going on in Rosewood, and things got very interesting to say the least.

Emily is undergoing procedures to sell her eggs to a couple; Aria is writing a novel for the very drunk Ezra; Hanna is trying to fix the mess she made after deleting security footage the police wants, and Spencer and Caleb hooked up!! OH, and not to mention… A is back.

At least she/him whatever it is now- decided to ditch the black hoodie and try something new. I mean come on, this is ‘5 years forward’ after all! Everyone deserves a new look… even A. (That sounded so wrong on so many levels to say, by the way).

Boy does this little town in Pennsylvania know how to serve out the drama. But this week we began to realize that this was only the beginning.

WARNING. SPOILERS BELOW!!

Yes, it is five years later and yes, it’s happening all over again. “I don’t lurk in the shadows. I hide in plain sight.”

As the episode opens, we find Spencer and Caleb in bed together after their hot hookup last week. I’m sorry, but I still can’t see these two being together, but I guess we will see what happens. What else is going on in Spencer and Caleb town, you ask?

WELL, Caleb decides to tell Toby about his relationship with Spencer. Based on his facial expressions, I would say that he is not too happy about the situation. BUT, it was revealed that Toby is dating Yvonne, the daughter of Mrs. Hastings opponent for state senate. Not only is Toby currently building her a house, but also plans to propose soon AND mentioned to Spencer that it was easier for him to be friends when she was living in D.C. rather than the same town.

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS - "New Guys, New Lies" - As the Liars’ love lives start to get messy, Hanna decides to come clean in “New Guys, New Lies,” an all-new episode of ABC Family’s hit original series “Pretty Little Liars,” airing Tuesday, February 2nd (8:00 – 9:00 PM ET/PT). ABC Family is becoming Freeform on January 12, 2016. (Freeform/Eric McCandless) TROIAN BELLISARIO, KEEGAN ALLEN

As for Caleb and Hanna? Well, Hanna finally addressed Caleb, telling him that she is happy abut him and Spencer and there always seems to be a weird tension in the air when they are around one another. Especially when Spencer, Caleb, Hanna and Toby are all in the same room. Anyone confused yet? I’m sorry, but this entire situation just is extremely awkward.

Ezra is out of town, but no one knows where he has gone. Could he be hiding out of guilt for what he did to Charlotte? Aria thinks her dad had something to do with the murder (along with Ezra) when she overhears a voicemail he left Ezra about “that night.” Not to mention, Byron’s 9 iron is missing from his golf bag. (A 9 iron is the new suspected murder weapon).

Hanna revealed to Jordan and her mother that she is the one who deleted the video footage from The Radley the night Charlotte was murdered. Ashley was furious that she was defending old high school friends and Jordan called in a lawyer he knew to help. Later in the episode when Hanna went in for questioning at the precinct that the backup video footage had been deleted, and the questioning would have to be delayed until further notice. It was then revealed that Ashley stole the footage.

Key Information We Learned about the new ‘A’ This Week:

  • The girls think Sarah Harvey may be a link
  • The girls do indeed who it is (based off of a text they received in the episode)
  • The particular uniform ‘A’ was googling at the end of last weeks episode was a bell boy outfit.Yes, that’s right! ‘A’ is working at The Radley, since that’s where the girls seem to be at all the time. Oh, and not to mention, ‘A’ is wearing a mask, and no not a mask like past seasons where it’s just a white hockey mask. I’m talking full-on Mrs. Doubtfire style mask. One that covers the entire face and head, giving you a complete different appearance to the outside world. Creepy enough, for ya?

I can’t wait to see what the rest of this series brings! What have you all thought of the ‘5 Years Forward’ approach? Tweet me at @ashieldss and let me know!

Also, don’t forget to watch Pretty Little Liars Tuesday’s at 8/7c on Freeform, the new name for ABC Family!
