“The Fosters” S5 E15 Recap: Mother’s Day

This week on The Fosters things went down. Stef’s mom came into town for Mother’s Day and took her and Tess out to the lesbian bar. It looks like things between Mariana and Logan are starting to spark as well. And Jesus learns a big lesson about respecting women. Let’s get into it!

Stef Opens Up

Stef is at the therapy discussing Jesus and his para problems and then starts to talk about Jenna. She says that Jenna came by to let her know that nothing was between Tess and her. And the therapist asks if it would bother her if they were together, but she answered that what bothered her was that Tess is keeping her husband in the dark.

The therapist compares it to what she did to Mike. Stef thinks back on how hard that time was and how she was unsupported by her family. She says thinking back on that time, in the moment, she felt ashamed. The therapist thinks that this feeling of shame is the root of her problem which is causing severe depression and anxiety.

Later that night at home, Stef asks Lena not to discuss anything that has been going on with her mother. And just then, Stef’s mom arrives. She asks where her luggage is and her mother says she left it at Tess’. She explains that when she didn’t see Stef’s car in the driveway, Tess invited her over for a glass of wine. Which then turned into plans to go to a gay bar the next night.

It All Goes Down At The Club

While at the lesbian bar, Stef comes right out and asks Tess, “so its official, you’re a lesbian?” And Tess tells her she hasn’t decided, she is just exploring..But then Stef reminds her that she told her mother last night she was….and things aren’t pretty. Tess fights back and asks her if it would bother her if she was a lesbian or if it just the fact that she hasn’t told Dean yet.

While the three of them are sipping on drinks, Tess gets asked to dance with a girl that she bought a drink for. Later, Stef’s mom also gets asked to dance with a girl there.

While they all sit down to a nice Mother’s Day Brunch, Mariana asks Tess if she had fun last night. Logan leans in and tells Mariana he thinks his dad is having an affair. When Mariana knows it is the exact opposite…While everyone is handing out gifts, Jesus apologizes for not having a gift prepared. However, he does read the last paragraph of his homework that he dedicated to his mothers. Brought them to tears, it was so beautiful.

Afterwards, Callie asks Jude if he wants to go to the cemetery later. During all of the happiness at brunch, Grace’s mom storms in furious about Brandon being the proxy. She explains the story and tells him that when it comes to the decision of whether she lives or dies, he is not capable of it.

Jesus’ Lesson On Respecting Women

In Lena’s office, her and Jesus discuss his new para. In the middle of complaining, she walks in. And he is pretty taken aback at how beautiful she is. And everyone in class also can’t but help notice. After class, a bunch of guys walk up to him and talk pretty dirty about her. Jesus chimes in and says “I’d probably focus a little better if she sat on my face.”

Lena walks into Jesus’ room and asks if he needs any help with homework. While she was looking at his homework, she found the note a guy passed him in class earlier about his para. And then Mariana chimed in, and told Lena what he said about her too. When Lena tells Stef about what happened, Stef reminds her that girls shouldn’t be perceived just by their looks, their brains matter too.

She then goes into a whole speech about feminism and the double standard between men and women. Stef reminds her mom that the way she was brought up made her feel shameful about sex and her choices just because she was a female, we can no longer say, “boys will be boys.”

While Jesus is doing his homework later that night, Lena comes in to talk to him. She apologizes for how she hired David the first time over Pria for her looks. But then she tells him that she raised him to respect women, not talk “like the guys” and sexually harass women. She tells him that if he cant show her the respect she deserves, he can tell her why.

Callie and Jude Reminisce On Their Late Mother

Ximena gives Callie a beautiful necklace as her way of thanking her for all she has done. When Jude walks in, he notices the necklace. But Callie says that she doesn’t have the heart to tell her she only wears her moms locket. And while on the subject, Jude asked if they could visit their birth mothers grave on Mother’s Day.

In a weird dream, Callie’s mom is alive and it is her and Jude in the kitchen while she is making breakfast. She wakes up in the middle of the night to find her necklace and feels much better.

While Callie and Jude are visiting at the cemetery, Jude says cemeteries are for the living to remember people they loved. Their mom doesn’t know that they are there. And when they go, i is a constant reminder they are gone. While they are talking, Jude’s dad comes with flowers. He tells them that our dreams are there to help us work through stuff. While they are talking, his girlfriend comes and introduces herself.

Back at home, Callie decides to finally take off the bracelet and put on the one Ximena gave her. Then Stef and Lena come in to talk to her. While they are hugging, Stef’s mom yells down and calls for a family dance party. And it was definitely the sweetest thing ever…

Mariana and Logan

Mariana and Logan discuss his parents splitting up and he is pretty torn up about it, so Mariana decides to invite him to their Mother’s Day brunch. When he tells her that his mom is out with her family tonight, she finally starts to piece it together…

She pieces it together so well, that she is put in a very uncomfortable place. Logan starts to wonder too, so much that Mariana threatens to tell him if Tess doesn’t first.

After brunch, Tess comes over and asks to speak with Mariana alone. She tells her that her and Dean are trying to make their separation as painless as possible, and if she hurts Logan over a situation she knows nothing about she will make sure he wants nothing to do with her.

Grace’s Progress

At the hospital, the doctor reviews Grace’s progress and says that everything is looking good and hopefully the cancer cells are the only cells being attacked. Grace tells Brandon that she made him her proxy because she knows he will make the right decision if things get bad.

When he gets back from the hospital, he tells Callie about Grace’s decision. He doesn’t think he can do that, it may be too difficult.

At the hospital, Grace talks to her mom and explains her decision. When Brandon comes back he tells Grace that he will be her proxy if that is what she really wants.
