Stef And Lena Open Up

(FREEFORM, ERIC MCCANDLESS)

Lena and Stef  hesitantly tell everyone they are going to a retreat that Stef’s mom signed them up for. Mariana tells them they do need to go because they need to work on their relationship…and that they need to keep an open mind.

As they arrive to the couple therapy retreat, their counselors greet them with open arms..waiting for Lena’s husband. After they clear the air, the counselors hand them some activities and surprises for them. Lena tells Stef they dont have to do any of that stuff but Stef insists.

They start with couples yoga and “goat-healing” energy. During their yoga, another woman, with her husband, tells them she never expected two women together would have any trouble communicating and they would talk about their feelings all the time. Then her husband said maybe that is the problem. Oh my…

After that comment, Stef and Lena get into a fight and discuss coming with a closed mind. However, they participate in group therapy later that night and Lena opens up. She shares with everyone that she often worries what will be left in their relationship once all of the kids leave the house.

After therapy, Lena writes a romantic letter to Stef in hopes for a romantic night but Stef shuts her down. Lena finally broke down and asked what is going on with her. She even asked if she was having an “emotional affair” with Tess. Stef tells her that isn’t the case, Tess just brings up old feeling about her own self that she used to have and it is hard for her to still trust anyone.

Stef Clears Her Head

(FREEFORM, ERIC MCCANDLESS)

In the middle of the night, Stef goes outside to clear her mind. And she gets a ‘visit’ from her father. He tells her that she can’t keep walking away from people, sometime she needs to plant her feet. She tells him that she needed his approval and it is why she became a cop, married Mike and tried to become straight. She said his rejection of her sexuality made her feel ashamed of herself and still makes her feel ashamed of herself. All she wants is for him to apologize. He says he can’t say everything that she needs to ear but she can say it to herself.

She says that she loves herself, she is proud of herself and how she loves her beautiful Lena and her beautiful kids and the life they have made. After her ‘talk’ with her father she came back in and opened up to Lena. She said that after Tess moved in next door it brought back this thing that keeps her from being completely vulnerable with you. And makes her feeling like what she is doing and who she is isn’t right. She carries around a fear that it could be taken away from them since their right to love isn’t the same as what is always legally recognized.

But she powers through and acts like she is stronger than she is. She is afraid that Lena will reject her because she isn’t as strong enough as she acts. Lena tells her after all these years she knows her and wants her to share her dark places with her so they can help each other heal.

Callie Taking Action

(FREEFORM, TONY RIVETTI)

Callie talks to the law professor and explains the reason she was struggling so much with her art major was because it didn’t come naturally to her but fighting for justice is what she is meant to do. He tells her it is too late and that there are already 20 people on the waitlist but if she is still serious about it in a year, he will see what he can do for her.

Later that day, the Fosters meet with the SinFuego family. The SinFuegos tell them that  ICE said they were police and asked to search their house. Once they were in the house they asked for their immigration status and arrested them even though they lied. But despite all of this, they don’t have the status or the money to appeal.

Callie, hoping to find a solution, finds a case from 2008 were the ICE agents used the same tactics on this other family and since ICE mislead them it rendered their consent meaningless and the judge through out the order. Aaron agrees that this may set a precedent for them but they need a lawyer willing to fight for them. Aaron says he may be able to help as long as she is okay with working with Amanda. Just as they are talking, Amanda walks in and Callie watches him kiss her hello.
