Some of the industry’s biggest in digital content stepped out for the Billboard & The Hollywood Reporter Pride Summit on Thursday.
Hannah Hart,Gigi Gorgeous, Joey Graceffa were the stars of the panel. The three were joined by Hayley Pappas, Anna Akana, Eugene Lee Yang, and Miles McKenna all spoke about their experiences on the internet as content creators.
While one thing was for sure on the panel, most panelists agree that there was one trailblazer among them, My Drunk Kitchen‘s Hannah Hart.
Hart started making Youtube videos back in 2011. She attributes much of her success to a journalist back then at Huffington Post who would share her new videos every time one went live.
She spoke about how that single post would lead to hundreds of thousands of views, and ultimately to her career.
The 32-year-old went on to say that she wished there was more “discovery through journalism” for today’s newcomers. She continued that the journalists of today are only concerned about the “reflections from the top.”
Hart revealed that if she was a young Youtuber in today’s world she probably wouldn’t “post to Youtube.”
