Eva Longoria Kicks Off Friday’s Power Women Summit With Heartfelt Diversity Speech: “When you are not on screen in the media you are being erased”

She’s one of the most sought after women in Hollywood. And on Friday, she was one of many famous names to make an appearance at TheWrap’s Power Women Summit in Los Angeles.

The conference aims at bringing awareness to women’s rights and to “drive toward 50/50″ equity and inclusivity in entertainment and media.”

The Desperate Housewives star showed up in a stunning white pantsuit as she took the stage while heading down memory lane and recounted experience with being bullied as a young child.

After telling her touching story about how she was made fun of for bringing along her bean taco on the bus while other children ate their Pop Tarts, she related it back to being herself and raising the next generation to feel much more confident in who they are.

“When you are not on screen in the media you are being erased,” she said while speaking about the Latino community on television and in movies. “People of color are usually depicted in very narrow ways on screen,” the Hollywood star continued before explaining the typical roles people of color tend to take on as roles in the spotlight.

“Little girls who feel inadequate that’s on us,” she said during the powerful segment before going on to talk about the inspiration behind movies such as “The Hunger Games” and “Brave” that inspired people everywhere to take an interest in archery.

And while she is now raising a little one of her own, her son Santiago whom she shares with her husband José Bastón, she says she is committed to helping her child grow up in a world and an industry where everyone feels accepted.
