At the young age of 17 singer, Camryn, has already toured with One Direction and is currently on tour with Fifth Harmony. From a young age she knew that performing was something she wanted to do every day. Over the summer she released a new 5-song EP entitled “New Dynasty,” and while out on tour she took the time to answer some of our questions.
Growing up is there a distinct memory you have of when you realized that you wanted to make music your career?
CAMRYN: I realized I wanted to be a singer at my first talent show in kindergarten. I was terrified while I was on stage but I loved every moment! I knew that I wanted to be there for the rest of my life.
Has the style of music that influences you changed as you’ve gotten older? At this moment who would you say your top three influences are?
CAMRYN: I’m influenced by many different artists in many different genres and across generations. I don’t like to be influenced by just one artist because then you become almost like a replica of that person and why would you want to be someone that already exists. Some of my top influencers are Panic! At The Disco, Paramore, and lately I’ve been listening to a lot of house music so I’d like to incorporate some of that style too.
You’re currently on tour with Fifth Harmony but have also opened for One Direction. What are some of the biggest things you’ve learned from be out with some of the world’s biggest artists?
CAMRYN: I’ve become a much better performer since being on the road with such experienced and amazingly talented artists. Watching their shows gives me some cool and new ideas about how to play my shows. I’ve also learned that it’s so important to interact with fans on and off stage. I thought it was so cool that even though they were such popular artists they still take the time to meet with fans who wait patiently outside the venue it’s really special.
Of all the concerts and shows you have played, is there one that you will just ALWAYS remember specifically?
CAMRYN: One of the shows I will never forget was at the Friends Arena in Stockholm. It’s one of the biggest shows I’ve ever played and the feeling I got when I walked out on stage is one I will never forget. Looking out into a sea of people and performing for them was incredible the adrenaline rush is indescribable. I am so blessed to say I played there.
What are some activities you enjoy doing in your downtime while traveling on tour?
CAMRYN: Being on tour can be stressful and hectic so one of my favorite things to do is go in my bunk on the tour bus and catch up on TV shows and movies. I also love getting time to spend with my band and team. I love hunting down a great latte in any city I’m in, I love suggestions!
You’ve grown a large social media following! You are also very active in responding to fans on twitter, do you think social media is an important aspect of building a successful career and following at this day in age?
CAMRYN: I think it’s a great way to talk to fans that I may not get to talk to otherwise. It’s important to stay in contact with the people who helped boost your career and support you unconditionally. I love being able to connect with people around the world. I love to know what’s going on with my fans, they really are my friends!
What can fans keep an eye out for in the next year? Any big plans? Ideally, a year from now what will be happening in your career?
CAMRYN: New music is always a possibility. I’m constantly in the studio writing and recording new music for everyone to have. Ideally I would love to go back on tour once I get off of this Fifth Harmony tour. I love performing it is my favorite part of being a singer.
