Interview: James Nitti Shares What to Expect From His Film Law of Attraction

Taking time out of his busy schedule, actor James Nitti gave us the deets on his upcoming movie, Law of Attraction! We were super excited to learn more and dig into the romance of the film and what else he has coming up. Check it out!

How would you describe this movie from your characters’ perspective?

“I play the character of Max Murphy, he’s the boyfriend of the leading lady of the film Alison. He’s very much a ‘guys guy’, always the life of the party and adopts about as much of a ‘Bro’ demeanor and attitude as you could imagine. He doesn’t really take anything in life too seriously, and has clearly costed by in life so far. Even though his girlfriend (Allison) is dealing with all these issues, with work, being maid of honor for her best friend etc, my character of Max is completely unaware of all her stress and her needs, and treats the whole experience as a bit of a joke, and an excuse to let loose and simply have a fun time.”

Talk about playing Max Murphy in Law of Attraction

“Max, was a super fun character to play. He’s that guy who is the life of the party at all times, doesn’t take life too seriously and lives life pretty care-fee. In comparison, I can be somewhat reserved and even introverted at times. So it was a really fun opportunity for me as an actor to kind of really let loose with him and have fun. He gets himself into a few funny and sticky situations throughout the journey of the film. He has this complete inability to read a room, and is usually lost in his own little world.”

How does your character, Max interact with Allison Williams, a young female attorney and Derrick Walker an opposing attorney — who may or may not be a big jerk.

“My character Max is the boyfriend of Allison. They have been dating for a number of years. Max and Allison have an interesting and extremely unbalanced dynamic. Allison is super smart and above anything else extremely hard working and motivated. Max is quite the opposite, lazy and likes to dump some of his work-load in Allison’s lap to take care of.

Max’s parents own the law firm where him and Allison both work, so Max has unfairly become one of the partners in the firm without really earning it himself. Max does love Allison in his own unique way, but there’s definitely a part of him that simply loves the convenience of a girlfriend when it suits him.

Max doesn’t have any real direct interaction with Derrick Walker. However, he certainly sees Allison and Derrick hitting it off well over the course of the movie, which doesn’t sit well with him at all!”

Without spoiling too much, what can fans expect from the plot line?

“It’s a real light-hearted feel good, romantic comedy. There are some hilarious moments with my character Max, where he starts to loose it a little. You’ll certainly find yourself laughing and cringing at the same time.”

What was it like working on set in South Carolina?

“This was actually my second time filming in South Carolina, and it was just as fun as the first time. We were on a really packed schedule, so there wasn’t a huge amount of down time for me to get out and explore sadly.

However, there were quite a few scenes that took place on the beach, so I did get the opportunity to spend some time on the apparently infamous Myrtle Beach!”

What was the most memorable moment you had while filming?

“There was this one scene, which without giving too much away, involved my character of Max receiving a romantic note with a cell number on it whilst sat having a drink at a bar. However, he doesn’t know who its from.

At this point in the film, Max has already lost the plot a little bit, he’s sunburned, probably has sunstroke, definitely a little drunk and is more then a little delirious. He’s desperate to find out who in this quiet beach-bar during the day time sent him this note. He eventually totally looses it, accosting a table of sweet elderly ladies, exclaiming how he ‘knows how much they want him!’

We did several takes, and after we had a couple of solid options in the bag, the director Michael Kampa, told me to now just have fun with it, and take it where ever I want to. So essentially he just left the camera rolling for about 5 minutes and let me go a little crazy with this moment. I’m still not entirely sure as to what I ended up doing, but it turned out to apparently be super funny, with me storming out of the bar and throwing quite the tantrum!”

Did you learn anything about yourself or from others while there? Or is there a takeaway from the movie?

“I guess one of the main messages or takeaways that people will hopefully leave this film with is, its often very common for us to think that we are happy when without really realizing it but we are not. We are often either blinded by love or just so used to being in a set dynamic with someone that we completely miss real or genuine connections right in front of our noses.

The film is a Classic case of never judging a book by its cover. A real connection with someone isn’t something that is ever forced, it’ll simply creep up on you without you even knowing.”

You will be working, once again with the producer of the film on another project in the coming months. For fans, who may not know, talk about what that means and how this opportunity presented itself. Does this happen often for actors?

“Yes that’s right! So, This was actually the second movie I have made with ‘G, It’s Entertainment’ production company, and they are amazing! Such a great production company to work with, and Yes! I’ll be working with them again in 2020 on another project, called ‘Mountain Love’. Sadly, I cant give out too many details about the film at this point but be on the look out for it for sure!

Being asked to work on another project by the same director or producer for me is a huge deal. I think as actors there is always a part of ourselves that is questioning our performances, ‘was that good enough?’ ‘could I have done it differently or better?’ etc etc. So being asked to work again with someone is the perfect amount of validation that I need! It means I must be doing something right! Ha-ha!”

We can’t thank James Nitty enough for taking the time to interview with us about Law of Attraction! We will definitely be checking it out! Make sure you are keeping up with him: IMDB and Instagram!
