Nick Jonas to Receive the Hero Award at the RDMAs

Nick Jonas is coming back to Disney Channel!  It has been announced that he will be honored with the “Hero” Award at the Radio Disney Music Awards!

We all know Nick as an actor, singer, songwriter, and multiplatinum recording artist. What you might not know is that you can also add philanthropist onto that list.  When Nick was just 13 years old, he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes which inspired the song, “A Little Bit Longer.”  Since his diagnosis, Nick has gone to help found Beyond Type 1 which is a non-profit organization. This organization uses the power of social media and technology to provide resources for those living with Type 1 diabetes.  It also provides funding for research, education, advocacy and programs to improve the lives of those living with Type 1 Diabetes.

Nick is nominated for the “He’s the One – Best Male Artist” award at the RDMAs, but win or lose, we know he’ll be walking away with at least one award. That is the the “Hero Award” presented to him by long time friend and fellow advocate, actor Jack Black.

We can definitely add this onto the list of reasons why Nick Jonas is so swoon worthy!

Heroes for Change

Along with Nick, Disney will also be recognizing two youth leaders for the RDMA Heroes for Change Award. This is part of Disney’s citizenship efforts, Be Inspired. This year’s heroes embody Be Inspired in their passionate work to create a brighter tomorrow.

The two award winners are 16 year old, Natalie Hampton from Los Angeles and Jocelyn Woods from San Jose, Calif.

Natalie is the founder of Sit With Us, Inc., a free mobile app which serves as a school lunch planning tool so that no one has to eat lunch alone.  Jocelyn on the other hand has found the Under-represented Teen Advocacy Program (U.T.A.P), a program that connects Bay-area teens in need with available services.

The RDMAs will be happening live on Saturday, April 29th at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.  Disney Channel will have a 2 hour special on Sunday, April 30th at 7PM EST.  And don’t forget to keep voting!
