Once Upon A Time: The Secrets of Camelot Revealed

Things are not always as they seem in OUAT and this week revealed some of the secrets Camelot has been hiding!

There were so many flashbacks and flash-forwards in last night’s episode it was hard to keep up, but let’s break it down chronologically.

SINQUA WALLS, JOANA METRASS

Young Arthur is telling Young Guinevere he was spoken to by Merlin (who was even in a tree when Arthur was a boy) and that he was prophesized to be the future King. Being bullied by the older kids in town for his vision, Guinevere is his only friend in town who believes in him.

As we know, when Arthur grows up he does indeed pull the sword from the stone, but only to find that only half of it remains. Hiding the missing half from the Kingdom, he becomes the King of Camelot with Guinevere as his wife. Obsessed with finding the dagger to complete his sword, he puts everything in his life second, including his wife Guinevere and her birthday celebration. It’s the last straw for her, so she ventures out on her own to find the dagger so she can get her husband back. Lancelot catches the Queen before she leaves and insists he accompany her on this journey. A journey that leads them to the Dark One’s Vault. Inside, the dark matter tries to capture Lancelot but Guinevere saves him and then kisses him in the heat of the moment. She knows this was a mistake and promises it will never happen again. The Vault leads them to a door that opens to a tropical paradise. Here, they meet Rumple who convinces Guinevere to take a potion that fixes broken things in lieu of the dagger. She agrees to Lancelot’s dismay. Back at Camelot, Lancelot tells Guinevere he is leaving for good and as they embrace to say goodbye, Arthur spots them. He confronts his wife as she enters the castle and she tells him the whole story about the dagger and the potion. She makes him choose his quest for the dagger or his love for her and the kingdom. Arthur, wanting it all, takes the potion and uses it on Guinevere and Camelot instead.

Flash-forward to our heroes in Camelot where Arthur decides to come clean to Charming about Excaiber only being half a sword.   Charming tells Snow about this revelation and how he believes Arthur can help them cure Emma. Snow and Charming argue (having Regina awkwardly leave the room) about what the right move would be and Snow insists it’s not with Arthur’s help as Lancelot warned her about Arthur’s villainy.   Charming goes against Snow’s wishes and tells Arthur everything and brings him the dagger’s box…which turns out to be empty. Snow had taken the dagger and met with Lancelot to hide it. They enter the Dark One’s Vault and Arthur follows them, revealing that Lancelot was right to not trust him. Charming enters revealing a different secret, him and Snow set this up as a trap! The power couple arrest Arthur and bring him back to Granny’s restaurant in the woods. What they don’t realize is that Guinevere (still under the potion’s spell) comes to release Arthur and they cast a spell on Snowing. Regina and Robin had been waiting from Snow and Charming to hear about their trap. The spell cast couple show up telling Regina to give the dagger to Arthur, much to her surprise. Lancelot meanwhile makes a new friend in the dungeon…Merida.

Back in Storybrooke present day, the Dark Swan is staring at the pink rose Hook had given her in Camelot, more on that later, while Mr. Gold is begging her to let him go by telling her he’s not the hero she’s looking for. But Emma has a secret weapon in Merida, whom she plans to teach Mr. Gold how to be Brave.

So far this was probably my least favorite episode of the season. It had some really great moments; I love Snowing as a power couple and Hook grinning when Henry talks about Violet. I don’t yet feel a connection to Arthur and Guinevere, whether it’s a love to hate like Cruella was or just pure hatred like Zelena. The odds are that the dagger won’t be reunited with the sword in Camelot (since they’re not together in Storybrooke) but I am interested to see once they finally are together what that means for the Dark One. I’m glad Emma was honest with Hook about the Rumple visions, she really needed to tell him so he’s able to help her accordingly. The scene with them in the field with pink roses was very cute and I’m glad to see it still has an effect on Dark Emma.

Now I read a theory the other day that suggests that Emma is only pretending to be dark so the Dark One (in the form of Rumple) will believe her. And perhaps she already knows how to defeat the Darkness (since you need to know your weaknesses). What do you guys think? Has Emma truly fallen to the Darkness or is she playing it up? Will Regina give Snow the dagger?
