Last time we caught up with the liar’s, they were investigating Charlotte’s death, debating whether or not Aria had something to do with it. However, the tables were turned when Aria and the girls discussed the possibilities of Ezra being connected to the murder that night. We do know that “Ezria” was together the night of Charlotte’s death, but were they together the entire time?
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!
The episode opens with Hanna deleting the video footage from The Radley that shows Aria leaving the hotel- and telling Spencer and Emily that she did so.
Lorenzo then makes an appearance at the hotel looking for Ashley, Hanna’s mom, asking if he could see the video footage from the night Charlotte was killed. It was then revealed that all of the video footage had been erased and all of the residents of the hotel that night and staff were going to be questioned about what they saw in the hotel that night.
Aria’s publisher is no longer interested in Ezra’s book, claiming that he is a drunk and he is not worth the time. Aria is confused by this statement, and begins to raise suspicion when Ezra is denied a beer by Ashley at The Radley when he and Aria go for lunch about the book.
The publisher is then once again interested when Aria sends the first two chapters of Ezra’s book- demanding more. However, it is then revealed that Aria is beginning to write chapter three, basically writing the book herself, pretending to be Ezra.
Good old Lucas from high school is back! That’s right, hermes is back and is always up for helping his high school crush, Hanna; when she asks if he would be her alibi for the night of the murder.
Melissa is also back in town, and she is always trying to meddle in her sisters business, asking what the deal is between she and Caleb. She also makes the comment that she has gotten very good at lying throughout the years and she has always liked shopping around in other people’s carts.
Spencer and Caleb seem to be having a weird flirtation since running into each other three years ago abroad, and apparently Spencer’s sister isn’t the only one noticing. Tonight’s episode seemed to raise some suspicion within the pretty little group; especially Hanna. Hanna decided to confront Spencer and ask her if anything was going on between she and Caleb.
Can you imagine how awkward that would be? On another note, back in high school, Caleb and Spencer really weren’t that close. Now Caleb is working on Mrs. Hasting’s campaign AND staying in Spencer’s barn while they are all in town; not to mention they now live in the same city when not residing in Rosewood. Sounds like these two have been spending a lot of alone time together. When she realizes that Spencer does have feelings, she reassures her that it’s okay and she should see how he feels. Spencer and Caleb wind up hooking up toward the end of the episode (but not before Spencer spills to Caleb the girls’ “Sarah secret” — that she was electrocuted, provoking her Stockholm Syndrome.)
Emily’s mom discovers that she dropped out of college, infuriating her, questioning everything Emily has ever told her the past few years. From the very beginning of the season, we have seen Emily engaging in some suspicious activity, leaving the audience to wonder what was going to happen next.
Hanna catches Emily giving herself a shot in the leg in the bathroom and decides to confront her. Emily finally told the truth about leaving school, running out of all the money her father left her in his will and deciding to sell her eggs for money because she cannot afford anything.
When Melissa reveals that someone saw the hotel footage to Spencer, she informs the group that they need to confront Ezra, asking him to reveal the truth to them. The girls were not expecting to get grilled right back, with Ezra screaming, forcing them to leave his apartment.
The episode ends with everyone in the group receiving a text message, just like seasons before, reading: “You know who did it, and I’m going to make you talk.” You know what that means, A is back. 5 years later and it is happening all over again. So much has happened and we are only three episodes in to the season! I can’t wait to see what the rest of this series brings! What have you all thought of the ‘5 Years Forward’ approach?
