“Shadowhunters” Recap: Dead Man’s Party

Episode 3 of “Shadowhunters” aired January 26th and might I say… it was a very emotional episode. Alec is upset that Jace wants to act without the Clave knowing, Clary is angry that Simon wasn’t kept safe while she was trying to get her memories back and Simon is scared out of his mind. Also, lets not forget the growing list of people that seem to want the Mortal Cup and think that Clary has it.

What do you make of Alec? At first glance I think it is easy to assume that he is upset with Jace for wanting to help the girl that turned out to be Valentine’s daughter, all while not telling the Clave of their plans. Then again, I still see the little green jealousy monster on his back getting bigger. I can understand Alec being protective of Jace because they are parabatai, which Jace finally explained to Clary in the graveyard scene.

Speaking of the graveyard scene! After Alec goes back to the institute to get his weapons, we finally get a real #Clace moment! To save Simon from the vampires, Clary needs to know how to fight. You know those cliche scenes in movies when the guy teaches the girl to play pool just to get closer to her? Yeah, that happened, but instead of a pool stick it’s a shadow hunter blade. After Jace lets Clary take control of the blade she says “It felt like you were still with me” and he replies “I am.. I will be.” It is literally the sweetest thing. If you haven’t guessed it yet, my OTP is #Clace.

So after leaving the graveyard Jace takes Clary to a biker bar. Here he teaches her to see past the dimensions of reality and she starts to see behind this cloak that demons use disguise themselves from mundanes. So in this bar, Jace tells Clary to talk to this seemingly handsome guy. Turns out vampires have this “charm” thing they use to lure their “prey”. She becomes completely infatuated with the guy and sees him for what he really is. Jace steps in, with a jealous demeanor, knocks the guy off his feet, steals his bike and saves Clary. Apparently it was all a plan to get this demon bike that can fly. Our shadow hunters then ride off into the early morning hours to save Simon. All the while this is happening, Izzy is “busy” with her faerie friend Meliorn trying to find a way to sneak into the vampire lair.

Our best friend Simon is in a bit of a pickle. After being captured by the vampires they took him to Hotel DuMort, their lair, and things got a little…heated. Camille, head vampire, had a special interest in the fidgeting and sarcastic mess that Simon was after being kidnapped. If you didn’t catch it, she bit him. What happens when a vampire bites a human? Hmm…

After an epic fight scene Simon is finally saved. One of the last scenes in this episode is absolutely heart breaking. After Clary and the gang free Simon and they end up on the roof of the hotel, Clary hugs Simon and says she can never live without him. His face lit up so bright until she calls him her best friend. Our buddy Simon is so deep in the friend zone and it is heart wrenching.
