Freeform’s hit drama “The Fosters” has been really fantastic this season! Every episode reminds me of why I am so obsessed with this show and last night’s newest adventure titled “Mixed Messages” was no different. It was an amazing episode that was filled with such juicy drama so LET’S JUMP RIGHT IN!

Stef & Lena
Stef has cancer. I hate writing that but it’s true & that fact alone is causing trouble not only health wise but also within the family. This week we saw our mamas once again fight with Sharon (guest star Annie Potts) on what is best for Stef & how to move forward. Both Lena & Sharon have different ideas & yet neither one of them seems really interested in what Stef thinks about all this.
The only person who asks Stef “what do you want?” is Mike, who Stef kinda confides in this week. (Which can I just say that I adore Mike & Stef scenes! I love that these two have such a history together & yet are still friends.)
At the close of tonight’s episode we see Stef open up a letter from the doctor that tell her she has reached an “increased breast & ovarian cancer.” What is even more shocking is that we see her start to hide the letter & keep this from the rest of her family.
Callie
Callie is still reeling from the post on Fost & Found about her “sleeping with a foster brother.” She is zooming around the site when the next thing you know… the thread disappears; Do we think this is the work of Justina?! Cause I certainly do.
It doesn’t matter that it disappears because it happened which makes Callie think that someone knows about her & Brandon’s tryst.
After confronting Brandon, she comes to realize that the only person she really told was Daphne.
Guys… Daphne (recurring guest star Daffany Clark) is back!!! Callie & Daphne have a little chat where Daph swears that she hasn’t said anything. She also comes up with a theory that the thread was probably talking about Liam & Callie, seeing has how the court records about the sexual abuse is public knowledge since Liam was over 18 when the trail started & Callie was one of the few foster children in that families care.
Elsewhere in the episode we see Callie step into more of the “role model” role for her app. Justina (guest star Kelli Williams) has set up a fancy photo shoot for her.
Brandon
Just when I think Brandon is gonna stop being a hot mess something always has to happen. In this case it’s him facing the fact that Callie is his sister now so things have to stop being weird between them, which causes him to lash out on Callie just days after telling her how important & amazing she is.
In an attempt to move on we see Brandon start to pine for his co-worker Courtney (guest star Denyse Tontz), who we met last week at the family dinner. This looks to be another Lou situation that will last for a while but ultimately won’t work out.
We also see sparks of what Brandon’s senior project for school will be. He will be writing a rock musical based on Romeo & Juliet with Mat (recurring guest star Jordan Rodrigues).
Mariana
The race for junior class president is on. After last week’s surprise announcement that Lexi (guest star Bianca Santos) is now running against Mari, we start to see the riff between these two friends go too far.
Lexi decides to hire the “#EpicFaily” that is Haley (guest star Caitlyn Carver; which can I just say was a pleasant surprise & even though the character is awful, the actress is so sweet!) as her campaign manager. A move that prompts Mari & Emma (guest star Amanda Leighton) to organize a debate between the frenemies. A debate that which goes out of hand when both ladies campaign managers start to poke at old wounds & play dirty by asking questions that bring up past mistakes or misunderstands.
We soon learn that Lexi is jealous because she missed out so much on the past year. She lost all of her friends, her boyfriend, & missed out on Mari growing into the wonderful woman she is. Here’s to hoping that they will start to heal & fix their issues.
Jesus
Jesus meets a new friend this week named Nick (guest star Louis Hunter) who looks like he might cause trouble. The two take a very fast ride in Nick’s car that causes Jesus to experience a bit of PTSD.
We also see Jesus flirt some more with Lexi. I am very conflicted because Lexi is Jesus’s first love BUT Emma is so much better for him! Who do you guys ship?
