Exclusive Interview: Madison Wolfe Discusses “I Kill Giants”

This young actress has a name that is meant to remembered. At only 15 years old, Madison Wolfe has taken the TV & Film industry by storm. She discusses her new movie, I Kill Giants, and acting in her most challenging, yet rewarding, role yet.

(I Kill Giants)

For those who don’t know about the movie, I Kill Giants, could you tell them a bit about it?

It is about a girl named Barbara, and it is her coming of age story. It is about her and the struggles in her life and how she copes with that. She creates this world of imaginary giants and tries to kill them.

What drew you to the role of Barbara and what does it mean to be a part of this all female ensemble?

What drew me to this role of Barbara is that she has so many layers and is a very complex character. She looks like so tough, like an outcast on the outside but on the inside she is a normal teenage girl. And all of the cast members were amazing and being a part of an all girls cast was so fun.

The film has a much deeper meaning than it lets on. What was it  like to play such a creative character who killed giants as an attempt to deal with her troubled home life?

It was challenging but the film has a really great message and a lot of people will be able to relate to it. It is a beautiful story more than anything. Yes, the giants are cool. The costumes and the graphics, they are a really cool part of the movie. But that isn’t what it is all about; it is about the emotional side of Barbara and even Sydney, my sister, my mom…it gives you a look of what people can be going through.

What were some very moving moments throughout the film. Which was your favorite scene to film?

One of my favorites scenes of the movie and probably one of the hardest to film was when Barbara finally gives in and goes to see her mom. It is a very touching part of the film and such an important part for her and her mom.

You also got to work with such talented actresses such as Zoe Saldana and Imogen Poots. Could you tell us what it was like to work with these women?

It was amazing working with them. They are so sweet and such beautiful people. They were always joking around on set and making it a great time. And obviously, they are such talented and amazing actresses and definitely people I look up to as an actress.

What is one message you want everyone to take away after watching the film?

A big message of the film is that you are stronger than you think. It is one of the last lines that Barbara says in the film, and it is such an important message. No matter what you are going through as a person, what “giants” you are facing, if you put that in the back of your head, you can get through it.

You have also starred in On The Road with Amy Adams and Viggo Mortensen, David O’ Russell’s feature, Joy, opposite Jennifer Lawrence and as Aubrey in HBO’s hit series, True Detective. What sets I Kill Giants, apart from other productions you have been apart of? What was similar and different?

I Kill Giants is one of the only lead roles I have done so far and one of the more challenging projects because it was a story about my character. I think in some ways that can be stressful but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I love a good challenge and I loved every single second of it. I loved her complexity and the movie’s storyline.

Are there any new projects you are working on now that the filming for I Kill Giants is over?

I have some stuff in the works, not too much I can say in the moment. But I am always working on bettering my career and myself as an actress.
