Congrats on becoming Curb Records’ newest pop artist, what has the journey to this moment been like?

It has been nothing short of a dream come true, honestly. When you grow up with a dream to become an artist, you think about how great it would be to get signed with an incredible label. They are so understanding of my vision and they want to hear my opinions – it has been the most amazing experience of my life. Also, being their only female pop artist is a little intimidating but really awesome.

What does being a part of Curb Records’ mean to you?

It is a dream come true. They are located in Nashville, which I have actually always dreamt of visiting and I ended up living there for a year right after getting signed. Being a part of the Curb family is amazing – it is very much family orientated.

Let’s talk about your new EP, ‘I Don’t Wanna Love.’ What is the inspiration behind this track?

With all of my music I think it is really important to pull from real-life experiences and things I have actually dealt with. First and foremost, this EP is my first body of work I have released as a solo artist, so these songs are my babies. Individually, ‘I Don’t Wanna Love’ comes from a personal experience of being in a relationship and having it end – one of the most relatable experiences on the planet – you see that other person moving on without you and you just don’t want to love them anymore.

“Go Steady” was the complete opposite of that, we really wanted to do something fun and upbeat, something people can dance to. The topic of this one is really important because with the culture we are in today, it seems like relationships are going out of style and it is becoming more of a “hook-up” culture. I want to keep the dreams of chivalry and being with a really great person alive.

Your single, “Go Steady” has climbed to #4 on Radio Disney and the Top 20 on Media Base 3-day building chart and you have a music video coming out soon – What went behind this song?

The writing sessions for these songs are always such great environments, you need everyone around you to have good vibes for each song. It is important for me to be surrounded by great people and great writers. We have a full album of music I can’t wait to get out there.

What do you attribute to your success and breaking into the music industry?

It is my parents, really. They have been so incredibly supportive from day one. I have a lot of friends who are also musicians who always talk about how their parents don’t support them. Both of my parents were in the music industry when they were my age. They truly understood my dream. Having them as a support system has been one of the biggest reasons I am where I am right now.

Aside from working on your new EP, you also have a YouTube channel, “This is Melanie Pfirrman,” where you discuss your journey as a woman in music. For those who haven’t tuned in, what are some topics you cover on the subject?

One of the main things I, and I am sure other people struggle with, is body image. Especially with this social media era we are in now and seeing all of the impossible standards we are trying to live in. The message I want to share is that if you are feeling this way, you are not alone. It is tough but as long as we get the perspective that there are others feeling the same way, we can get through it.

Is there any new music or projects you are working on that your fans can look forward to?

Yes, I am so excited. We wrote 16 or 17 songs and I am hoping that there will be a full album release with these songs in the near future! There is a single, “Remnants” I want to share – it is a beautiful ballad, along with more dance tunes. It will be a mixture of all different things – I didn’t want to conform to one sound or feel. And the music video for “Go Steady” will be released very soon!

What is one quote or message you carry through in your life everyday?

One of the main things I try to live by is – it’s very simple – love. The world needs more love. “What the worlds needs now is love, sweet love, it’s the only thing there is too little of.” This is the best way to get your message across and to lead by example. “Be the change you want to see in the world!”
